The museum is set within a closed portion of the Hutchinson Salt Company mine, which was opened in 1923 and still produces over half a million tons of salt every year. The trip on the 5,443 kg (6 ton) double-decker hoist takes you to a depth of 200 m (650 ft), opening up a world of subterranean attractions: museum exhibits, old and modern machinery, and various tours through the mine's chambers. Regardless of the weather on the surface, the temperature inside the mine is always around 20 C (68 F) year-round, so be sure to bring appropriate clothes. Yes! Always wanted to go... finally found time... and it did not disappoint. 650ft underground - ummm, YES! Really neat. Best to stay with yr tour group so you see it all. 2 short rides were included.... more

As others have said, this is a very interesting place to visit. Knowing we would only visit once we also booked to do the Salt Safari, which was good but would have been better if the guide's...

Amazing Experience, an active Mine with so much going on...it was very interesting & well worth the money and time. Two hours went by so fast and it is needed. Strataca helps to send you back into time allowing understanding of how mining salt began and how it has evolved. Learning the purpose of salt and how it's used today was fascinating! Everyone should visit this Attraction.

I took my wife here for our 4 year anniversary and it did not disappoint! I bought the regular tickets plus the safari ride through the old mining areas. We got to collect chunks of salt from the mine too. You can also reserve their event center 650 feet underground! I will be back again it was so much fun.

Such an awesome and perfect outing for our family. Our 11 year old boy wasn't bored once, didn't even realize we had been there over 2 hours. The tour guides were awesome and very knowledgeable about the history and little details of the salt mine. Definitely recommend for anyone in the area.

This is an amazing underground adventure! 650ft underground active salt mine! It’s been suggested that breathing salt air has a healing effect, and many swear by it. This tour was one of the most informative I’ve been on in some time, AND in addition to making memories, you get to select a chunk of actual salt rock to save, show and share your experience with others.

The Strataca Salt Museum was a very fun and educational experience! Being 650 feet below the surface in an active salt mine while learning about the history and the tools used was a very unique experience. We had a great time!
