Create an itinerary including Seaside Seabird Sanctuary
The largest wild bird hospital and sanctuary in the United States, Seaside Seabird Sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates injured wild seabirds in hopes of returning them to nature. Spend time up close with the permanently injured birds who reside at the sanctuary full time and take pictures of some of the 600 wild birds that come through. Make sure to bring sunscreen and water, as the sanctuary is mostly outdoors. Be aware that like any place heavily populated by birds, there can be a strong smell. • Very small with mostly pelicans. No staff around to talk about the rehab or what the different birds were. Worth a visit if you have an hour to kill.

  • Wonderful sanctuary away from the busy streets and mass of tourists for quiet time learning about birds. Great operation of volunteers who give a home to injured birds.

  • Beautiful place to visit! The experience here was wonderful. There are so many different types of birds here that you get to see and learn about. Some I've never seen before and getting to see them close up was a real treat. I would love to come back one day with my kids so they can see the birds. The staff is very friendly and communicative about the birds. They even told us some of the stories of their lives and how they arrived at the sanctuary. Love what this place is doing!!
  • Such a cool spot! All of the birds here are disabled and unable to survive in the wild in their current condition. They take great care of the birds, lots of volunteers and staff that work very hard to give a good quality of life to the birds. Wild birds hang out outside the park too which is neat to see (egrets, herons, vultures, etc..) Lots of different species of birds. It is free but they take donations. There is a cool look out tower with a great view of the beach too. Highly recommend going up there. Awesome spot. I will be back! Cool place for kids too. Lots of educational opportunities. There is a gift shop as well.
  • Very small & cute!! A true animal sanctuary, not a zoo. They have some long term residents & a lot of wild birds actually hanging about! They must know it's a safe place. The white pelicans were HUGE and fun to watch. Very cute, and you can enter from the parking lot or the beach. The tower had a beautiful view of the beach too. No admission cost. Didn't see any employees or staff while we were there.
  • I stopped by with my children who are learning about birds at school. Lots of birds to see. A volunteer brought out an owl for us to meet. Another worker showed us some baby owls they had rescued just yesterday. She was headed out to try to reunite them with their parents. We really enjoyed the many pelicans, in particular. Interesting place that's doing great work. Free parking and admission, but donations are taken.
  • This place is fantastic and the staff are super friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to talk about the rescue efforts. My wife and I stumbled upon them on a bike ride and I went back a few days later with friends and also do make a donation. Keep up the great work and thank you for providing a rescue that also educates the public
