Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park is a 1.5mi public beach and city park in Jacksonville, Florida. It is located at Mayport in the Jacksonville Beaches area. It consists of 447acre of mature coastal hammock, which is increasingly rare to find along Florida's heavily developed Atlantic coast.
Part of what is now Hanna Park was formerly Manhattan Beach, Florida's first beach community for African Americans during the period of segregation in the United States. around 1900s by blacks working on the Florida East Coast Railway. At its height the beach included amenities such as picnic pavilions, cottages, and an amusement park. It flourished until around 1940, when it was superseded as a day-trip destination by the larger American Beach in nearby Amelia Island.
In 1967, 5acre of land for the park was donated by Winthrop Bancroft, who required that the land be named for Kathryn Abbey Hanna (November 8, 1895 – 1967, a Chicago-born educator and author who had settled in Florida and served on the board of Parks and Historical Places.
Following the Jacksonville Consolidation, the area became part of Jacksonville. The city purchased the surrounding property in the 1970s during the administration of Mayor Hans Tanzler, expanding the park. The first general purpose trail was constructed by Michael Long in 1987 as his Plan my day in Jacksonville using traveler tips and tourist information provided by Klarna Trips.

  • Tired of traffic and the city? Jacksonville folks, here is a great place to escape for the weekend. A nature park with the beach and lake! I spent a wonderful time with my family friend in the lake and we enjoyed our time looking at the wildlife and fauna. The kids enjoyed the playground while we sat at picnic tables and eat our lunches. Ideal place for campers, hikers and sunbathers! . Everything in one place. Cool!
  • The park has a lot to offer. The campground is very large with full hookups, but site 31-avoid it unless you have a smaller class C or B, where you can pull in forward or are using a tent. The hookups are on the wrong side and it's just a weird site. The campground facilities are older, so bring Teflon tape for your hose hookups! And the roads are pretty narrow and not one way, so that's different. But overall, once I got past my two issues, the stay has been great!
  • Hanna Park is an awesome place that has a bit of everything to offer. There are beautiful beaches with showers and bathrooms, camping, kayaking, good waves for surfing, walking and biking trails, fishing and the list goes on. It feels like you have gone deep into nature, away from civilizations, without having to drive an hour outside the city. It is a gorgeous place to take pictures and have family pictures.
  • We enjoyed our first camping trip in our new (to us) RV last weekend! The camp store staff is awesome and the campers are friendly. We rented kayaks for a half hour (I think it was $10/half hour) and that was more than enough time for trips around the lake. The rental staff was very friendly and helped us out with learning what to do. What an amazing weekend. Our daughter invited her friends and they all had a beautiful Time. Two of our older kids (24 and 21) came to visit and have a little fun too. We have always enjoyed Hanna park. 😍
  • We spent 2 weeks at this park and loved it! Lots of trees and we'll shaded and just a short walk to the beach. You can ride your bike on the beach and get to Neptune beach etc (recommend crossing over to the road if you don't have fat tires). The bike shop was super convenient, quick, and reasonable at just $25 for a tune up. Loved this place, highly recommend!
