  • 01/16/2021 8:30 pm (Black Site) I really liked the staff because they were fun to talk to but unfortunately the room was poorly prepared. First of all, we chose one of the hardest rooms "Black Site" and there were 6 of us, but they only had 2 available blindfolds so the rest of us had to close our eyes when entering the room. They also had a bunch of unnecessary rules (like getting a 5 minute penalty for standing up even if you're already free and not chained from your seat anymore because nobody's allowed to stand up unless everybody's cuffs are off, and they tell you that you need to "get out" of the handcuffs but if you're able to free both your hands without breaking the cuffs then apparently it's cheating cause the cuffs aren't open, hands have to be on the lap, no leaning forward, no standing on the benches to read the clue, etc) and some of the belts are broken (hubby's belt broke even before entering the room) and most of the written clues are faded or completely erased. We found a Crocs shoes accessory pin that a former costumer must have lost/accidentally left behind and we thought it was the key when it was still dark, then we thought it was part of a clue or a game accessory but turned out to be a complete waste of time, yup very expensive time wasted just because the room wasn't properly cleaned. I'm trying not to spoil but we needed to have EXACTLY 4 "stuff" that matches the symbols given in order to figure out the password but we found 5 exact matches, also one of the symbol on the "stuff" was completely faded so there was no way for us to know the password unless we used one of our three hints so the "fairy god mother" (who interrupts you all the time to tell you what to do or what not to do and basically just sucks the fun out of the activity) would tell us the password on the tablet that can only be unlocked once. The last clue for the password was also faded and BARELY readable (not purposely faded, they just couldn't be bothered to fix or maintain the room) and so ridiculously worded that you can't even comprehend it, so basically you'll need basic chess knowledge but doesn't say anything about chess at all just "pattern L (which looks more like an I because it's ALSO faded) one vertically and two horizontally or two vertically and one horizontally" and more. I know it's not the staffs' fault but writing something to confuse people is one thing but purposely making it indecipherable is another. No wonder it was rated one of their hardest rooms. *Cue massive eye roll* And lastly, when we got our picture taken, they handed us a "Convicted" poster instead of "Black Site" and we only realized the mistake when it was already too late. All in all, the experience itself was fun I'm not gonna lie but was it worth $39/person? Unfortunately not. The least they could do for charging people $39 for an hour is to maintain their rooms and equipment/accessories. Such a shame, really. I hope that not all rooms (or any One Way Out branches for that matter) are like this because no one wants to pay for something that expensive just to be disappointed, and we were.
  • We did the rendezvous room with 3 adjusts and 2 kids and everyone had a lot of fun! The team was engaged the whole time and the puzzles were very creative. It’s cool that story of the rooms are linked together as chapters. Would definitely go again and highly recommend everyone to check out this place!
  • UPDATE: Expanded space is so nice! big facility and the games all tell a story but you don't have to complete them all or in order if you don't want. Staff is fun and helpful and it seems like they love their work. Greg helped us in our first interactive experience room! I hope this is the first of many of that type, I think there's great potential there! Great competitive prices for the area and the rooms are pretty challenging. Everyone is so nice and helpful.
  • Having successfully beaten five different Escape Rooms in Jacksonville a few of our Escape Artists thought that we would try this new place and show them our mad skills. They claim that Convicted has a low escape rate (5%!) but our brains are mighty and experience is on our side. We took only 4 of our group to try this challenging room and... Ran out of time before successfully escaping. We were humbled, but all agreed that this was the absolute best Escape Room in Jacksonville. The staff are fantastic - the owner Ben is extremely nice and genuine. We all had so much fun that we decided to try and redeem ourselves with another room the same evening. One Way Out offers a unique experience unlike any other Escape Room in the country - because this is a Jacksonville original - not a franchised copy like some of their competitors. And the puzzles are challenging not just a "tear the room apart and find all the pieces to solve 4 simple puzzles" type room. They have 4 rooms currently (October 2017) with 2 more scheduled to hit by the end of the year. I seriously cannot wait to come back and try the rest of the rooms.
  • Awesome experience at One Way Out Escape Room. Challenging rooms and a great team experience. We crushed the Collision Room, looking forward to going back and doing the rest. Make sure Amanda is your game master - she was awesome!!!
