  • Best place in NC to watch a sunset and see the valley below. Be sure to pack a picnic lunch and a blanket to sit on. Get there early to get the best spot.

  • I am so glad we made the drive to this park from Blowing Rock. West Jefferson had lots of great shops and restaurants in a picturesque downtown and we capped off the day with some hiking here. The views were wonderful and the hikes were perfect for a family but not too easy. There are several trails you can choose from as you climb the mountain and hit each overlook point.
  • Beautiful views and different level of difficulty hiking trails. The picnic area up on the top is quite nice with several tables and they have a covered area with a fireplace. We enjoyed our time here.
  • This is a great area to hike. You can drive all the way up and hike from there, or there are many trails to go on. Great views at the top from several spots.
  • If you are looking for a beautiful mountain trail with great views, but is short & easy, this is it. Drive to the top parking lot which is the top of Mt.Jefferson, and there is a gravel hill, past the picnic shelter, leading to the top of the mountain. This is the most strenuous part of the hike. (But not too strenuous! Our four year old does it easily.)Once at the top, there is a 1.1 mile loop that is relatively flat & easy with amazing views. The view from Luther Rock is beautiful, but hold on to your little ones. This is a dangerous area. There are rocks on the trail so not good for strollers. The loop back goes through the woods, downhill at first then uphill toward the end. You come out on the gravel road you started on but closer to the picnic area. There are restrooms here but they close in winter. We were there April 2 and restrooms were still closed.
  • Another classic excursion for the area with nice trails and great views. You will find several view points along the road to the top. Once on the top, you have paved parking, picnic areas and tables with great views and restrooms that are only open during the warmer seasons Great for a family time!
