  • I love all aspects of the displays but I really enjoy the train display through the years for the Virginia Creeper. Bill Baker worked on that and he did an outstanding job.

  • Oh what a wonderful experience! Lynn greeted us so sweetly, and knew so very much! We loved her! The other lady in the gift shop was also so incredibly sweet and helpful! It is free admission, although they have a donation box, and we left a mild donation. We bought things from the gift shop. I got a magnet with the old train on it. The place is sparkling clean, and the antiques are beautiful. They have a rich history, and Lynn can answer any questions! This is a very family friendly place, but I think couples or anyone who likes a relaxing day with antiques would also love it. The bathrooms were also spotless. I hope to go again and next time take my mother!!
  • This is a gem of a local history museum tucked away in Jefferson, NC, in the beautifully restored courthouse (dating from 1904, I believe). I visited today to check on some historical artifacts, and had a chance to get a personal tour of the exhibits, and I met the museum director. An excellent, informative, and caring staff who love to discuss the rich history of the Lost Province and beyond. The dioramas are especially well done. I will be returning often to peruse the depth of information presented in this facility.
  • After eleven years in Ashe County I finally dropped by and wondered how I missed this NC mountain treasure. The museum is fantastic with wonderful exhibits on native American culture and artifacts, esrly Appalachian settlers, an amazing WWI room, a working VA Creeper model railroad layout and much moore. The gift shop had resources on Ashe County and the High Country I have found no where else. Finally, the volunteer who toured me around was a living treasure. Be sure to drop by and give yourself around an hour.
  • What a fun place to visit! And such a friendly and engaged staff! My kiddo and I had a blast in the mine display, the train display and school room, among many other great experiences. Highly recommend visiting!
  • Our family of 7 visited this museum today and were amazed with our guide, Bennett, who was a wealth of knowledge. He interacted and kept the attention of the 3 kids, aged 8, 10 and 12, and commended them on the historical knowledge they have. If Bennett is available for a tour, definitely have him take you through the old courthouse.
