Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, Kansas City

It’s free during the month of February for Black History Month, so it was very crowded, but there were no Karen’s or impatient people. There’s a lot of history and a lot to read and see. We spent a couple hours in there. It is definitely worth it if you’re a baseball fan, even if you’re not it’s so much history that is unknown to many and unspoken, so to take the time and moment to learn about it is worth the time. Wonderful place to appreciate the contributions and conditions that great players had to face. Sad that museum was smaller than I expected with less artifacts. Video displays were very dated and wish more people would contribute to modernize, which is sorely needed. The Era and the people should never be lost to time...we should all support the museum and make it the deserving showcase it should be for the other half of America's Pastime. (Would be great to also find a way to expand it a little to include Latinos, Women, and other cultures who were involved as well)

This small museum has a lot to offer. There is a ton of information on the history of the league and many of the players. There is also a running timeline of real history to give everything a sense of place. There is a strong Kansas City connection, with a large number of players coming up through the roster of the Kansas City Monarchs. There are a couple of vignettes and a nice collection of equipment, jerseys, and caps. The exhibits circle a life size replica of a playing field with bronze statues of players. At the beginning of the tour there is a really wonderful short overview film narrated by James Earl Jones. If you follow baseball at all, this is a must see. Really well done facility.

This was our first visit. As long time baseball fans we enjoyed this so much!!! So happy this part of baseball history is here to learn from. The price was worth the time we spent there (1 1/2 hours). We would recommend a visit to anyone who is a fan of baseball! It is recommended to purchase tickets online in advance.

Longtime Baseball fan but this was a new experience for me. So grateful for the people who made this museum a reality. We started by watching the intro video (sit in bleachers which was a neat touch). Then spent rest of time reading all the tidbits and history. So many mementos, photos, uniforms, clippings and quotes. Bleachers from original stadiums also are on site. The final stop is a miniature infield with bronze statues, very cool to stand with Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson! Highly recommend you stop in and visit this gem. Included in the building is the American Jazz museum and also history area of 18th & Vine.
