Introducing Alaska Hummer Adventures…where the Last Frontier meets Indiana Jones.

We are a family owned business operating in the temperate rain forest of Southeast Alaska, guiding tourists off the beaten path in style and comfort of H2 vehicles.

Founders John & Jillian Malouf from Ketchikan, Alaska identified the need for a more personalized, custom touring option based on the individual needs of small groups. Their own travel experiences as a family of five with young children inspired them to create this private, custom, affordable adventure service they call “Touring in Rugged Luxury”.

Their vision came to fruition as the company began operations in 2004 with one H2, and continued expansion with a fleet of five vehicles.

Passengers enjoy the high level concierge service while exploring the rugged Alaska terrain in luxurious comfort. Special use permits allow our naturalists/guides to venture into secluded sites and wilderness areas for an exclusive touring experience.

Tour Your Way with Alaska Hummer Adventures!

The tour enables you to tour all over the island and experience multiple venues with privacy and luxury with your own group. We like to think of it as “touring in rugged luxury”.

This 4-hour tour begins on the Ketchikan cruise ship dock and is customizable at any point along the way. A “Guest Preference Card” is given to you to fill out at time of booking thus ensuring that we can provide the very best in customer service. (Click here for the Hummer Preference Sheet) This card asks for such information as music preference, car seat size if required for a child, and venues of interest. Each Hummer carries two sets of binoculars and umbrellas for the guests to use while on tour. Guests should consider this tour as a private car service with a knowledgeable Alaskan tour guide.

The venues to choose from include:

· Wildlife Viewing areas

· Waterfalls

· Totem Pole Parks

· A detailed city tour

· Walks or hikes through the gorgeous rainforest

· Panoramic views of Ketchikan and the surrounding islands

· Museums & attractions including the Totem Heritage Center, Ketchikan Fish Hatchery & Eagle Rehabilitation center, & the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center.

Custom stops can include, but are not limited to shopping, dinning or exploring just about anything on the island. Wildlife stops can be made at any time the opportunity arises.

  • We booked a private hummer tour with Alaska Hummer Adventures through Alaska Shore Excursions and it was the best excursion ever! Our ship, Ovation of the Seas, was docked at Ward Cove on August 14th, 2022 and our wonderful, informative, and hilarious tour guide, Shannon S, met us right where we got off the ship! Our goal was to see bears, eagles, totem poles, salmon, and the Tongass National Forest. She promised us we would see everything on the list — except for the bears. No guarantees there. Our first stop was Herring Cove, where bears would be most likely to make an appearance. Unfortunately we saw a lot of salmon but no bears! From there, we went to a scenic water fall. Before leaving the area, she was kind enough to take us back to Herring Cove to see if any bears had arrived but unfortunately, nothing. On our way to the next stop, we took a little detour so she could find us some Eagles, as she said she knew of a nest nearby. Sure enough, we saw one atop a tall tree and a few others nearby! It was such a treat to be on a tour led by a true local. She told us a lot of stories about growing up in Ketchikan and answered any questions we may have had about the 30 mile city! We moved on to Totem Bight State Park where we got to see several totem poles, walk on the shoreline, and try wild huckleberries! We then moved on to Tongass National Forrest where we took a short hike through the woods on Lunch Creek Trail. We ended up at a secluded beach with extremely low tide. Because the tide was so low, Shannon took us “out to sea” where we walked on the sand and rocks to look for washed up sea life. We found SEVERAL beautiful starfish ranging in size and color, crabs hiding under rocks, a lot of barnacles, a sea urchin, and a baby eel. On the way back from the park, we drove through downtown and she showed us where the welcome to Ketchikan sign was. As requested, she dropped us off in town so we could explore on our own, but not before confirming where and how we could get the free shuttles back to ward cove. I highly recommend Alaska Hummer Adventures to anyone visiting Ketchikan and if you’re lucky enough to get Shannon as your tour guide, I’m sure you will have an absolute blast!
  • This was hands down our favorite thing we did in Ketchikan. Our guide Alex was local and extrely knowledgeable about the area, flora, and wildlife (he was very patient with all our questions.) It takes some time (and patience) waiting in the viewing area, but after about 35 minutes of waiting the bears started showing up. We had an up close and personal experience with the bears observing them in their natural habitat. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone who has the time.
  • Our excursion was canceled last minute for Ketchikan so we had no solid plans for the day in port. We booked the Alaska Hummer Adventure tour for 2 hours while in port and our driver/tour guide Lee was amazing. He personalized our tour for us and he was very knowledgeable as a native to the area. He also had great trivia and stories which made our tour even more enjoyable. SPECIAL thanks to Lee as you made our day and trip to Ketchikan great.
  • Took this tour on Friday, October 14, 2022 with five people one being in a wheelchair one being in a car seat I booked it on my own not on Norwegian cruise lines website. Our driver was Shannon, who picked us up on time actually a little bit earlier than on time of 8 AM and she took us to some amazing places on both sides of the island she showed us things we would have never seen on our own things that only the locals knew she was very informative. She took us where we want it as well, which which some shopping places and we got to see so much of the island in a four hour span she had us back on time at the dock, so we can make the ship and we were just so happy with this excursion the car was clean and beautiful. Thank you so much for an awesome experience in ketchican one that we will never forget
  • We took thr 5 hour boat tour on the Coastal Cruiser to the Misty Fjords. You can't believe how cool it is until you see it! The trip is 1.5 hours each was plus time in the Fjords. Alex was our guide and he did an awesome job giving us history about the Fjords as well as life in Ketchikan as he has lived there all his life. We saw seals and an Eagle as well. Boat was comfortable! Would recommend as a great way to see the beauty in Alaska.
