A mesa created by erosion and weathering, Grandad Bluff features expansive views of La Crosse and the surrounding river valley, as well as several hiking trails. The bluff, part of an area formerly quarried for limestone, towers 180 m (590 ft) above the surrounding area. Drive up the winding road to the top and park close to the lookout, where you will find coin-operated binoculars for viewing the town or countryside. Bring a picnic if you like to one of the designated areas. Plan to visit Grandad Bluff and other customer-reviewed, writer-recommended La Crosse attractions using our La Crosse trip planner.

We came to visit and explore the La Crosse area over spring break and were told by many of the locals to visit Grandad Bluff during our stay. I can see why, the views are breathtaking! My family and I would love to travel back up in the fall. I can’t imagine how beautiful it must be that time of the year!
