An Idea is Hatched

As so many great things do, Crying Eagle Brewing started with a conversation at the family supper table. From that evening on, the Avery family and a few brave, beer-obsessed souls set out on a journey that would become much more than just another business or job; this one would be a passion project!

The Incubation

Researching breweries is no joking matter! It takes dedication, fortitude, focus, and…who are we kidding?? That was the beginning of the fun! Countless days were spent at more breweries, brewpubs, and taprooms than we can count of all shapes and sizes from coast to coast to see the full spectrum and decide where we wanted to fit in. To be the best, we had to see the best.

The Nest

Our state-of-the-art facility was constructed from the ground up to produce great craft beer and be a place to enjoy it. The 7500 square foot main brewery features a custom 30 barrel brewhouse for our large distributed brews while the “Brewer’s Playground” pilot system is for taproom-exclusive brews.

Our 4000 square foot taproom features plenty of comfortable indoor seating made for sampling our rotating line of beers you won’t be able to get anywhere else. Step outside to the beer garden to relax and enjoy Louisiana’s beautiful outdoors while playing a game of washers or cornhole. Before the day is done, make sure you fill a growler to go!

The Convocation

Ducks have flocks; eagles fly in “convocations.” The next step in our journey was to put together a team to help make this dream a reality. If you look at our logo with all of the different colors swirling together, that is how our team came together. Crying Eagle has been and continues to be a convergence of guys and gals from every walk of life and every corner of this great land. {Link to bios}

Why “Crying Eagle?”

From tales of pirates, privateers, and buried treasure to the area at one point being a lawless “No Man’s Land,” Southwest Louisiana is home to many unique pieces of history.

Calcasieu, the name of the parish (or county for y’all not from around here) that we call home, comes from the Atakapan word, "quelqueshue", meaning "crying eagle". It is said to have been the name of an Atakapa chief.

Let’s get crafty, SWLA.

  • Great tap and mix drink selection! I did the sample; all 4 beers were amazing! The bistro has good food! The pizza was popular, but I did the classic burger…winner! Will definitely be back...

  • Crying Eagle Brewery is an incredibly clean establishment. I have been many times and the beer is always excellent. The food has gotten better over the years too. I highly recommend it.

  • Awesome atmosphere with a “come as you are” mentality. We were there Friday night at 7:00. There were baby’s in strollers, dogs on leashes, and teens up to elderly. Very friendly atmosphere! Bistro food was amazing. There upstairs and downstairs seating as well as outside seating. You walk in and seat yourself wherever you like. There is lots of drink options for wine and cocktails if you don’t like beer. At 7:00 “drunk spelling bee” started for anyone that wanted to participate. Just FYI: there were NO stupid drunk people there. Just normal people having a good Friday night after a long work week. If you’ve never been….go. I think you will be glad you did!!
  • Nice little brewery. There is tons of parking in front, along the drive and behind the brewery. The entrance is on the south side of the building. When you walk in, the bistro for food orders in to your right. There is a bar in the back left, stairs to upstairs (more seating + restrooms) on the left, bathrooms and gift shop to the back left. There's a large outdoor space on the east side including a big stage and outdoor games. The bar and bistro share the same system so once you start a tab that at one of them, it works for both using your name. If you order food, you'll get a number for your order. Just place it at your table and they'll bring your food to you. They didn't bring napkins or utensils so make sure to grab some if you need them. The amber ale was nice. The fish tacos were pretty messy and difficult to eat. The flavors were alright. Cool little spot. Will definitely be back again.
  • Wife and I went to Crying Eagle Brewing Friday night around 6:30 for dinner and the comedy show after at 8. We haven't had a chance to go here in a while. The last time we did was for lunch and they served you. Now, or maybe in Friday night's case, you order from the window and you get a number. No problem, we just didn't realize and sat down for about 15-30 seconds before realizing lol. Ordered the fried jalepeno cheese curds, Crying Eagle burger, and What Tha Fig pizza. All of it was pretty good and came out in a timely fashion. After ordering our food, we walked over to the bar to order drinks. Asked the bartender for a flight. Told him a couple things I/we liked and didn't and he got us a good variety of 4 really good ones. I know some bartenders don't like that, but I was curious to see how he did and I was very happy with it. Tipped him separate from our tab and told him he did a good job. Wife also wanted a bloody Mary. He did a really good job with that as well. Even asked if she wanted it spicy to suit her wants, which was a plus. After we finished, we cleaned up and went and picked up an Irish Red beer for the comedy show outside. Bill with 20% tip ended up just under $100 I think. We never knew they had those comedy shows, but the MC said they do it about once a month I think. 5 comedians (mostly from Houston area) came out and entertained us for a couple hours for $10 a person (ordered tickets online....I think they're typically $15 at the door). Good time for a little night out without the kiddos and we're hoping to go out and do it again with some friends next time.
  • We can’t say enough good things about the Crying Eagle Brewing Company (CEBC). We were Harvest Hosts guests, and as such, always appreciate a spacious and level parking lot which CEBC had. They also had a full menu to select from but we ordered an incredibly delicious burger and a couple of cold beers, which we enjoyed on their huge outdoor patio/deck while listening to a local acoustic musician. If you find your way to Lake Charles, LA we highly recommend this establishment for all your sleeping/eating/drinking needs.
  • Wonderful brewery spot. Right off the main road. Kitchen on site with great food options. Ample indoor and outdoor seating. Live music stage outside. Staff was busy but got what we needed. Multiple (15+) taps of beer. Sours, IPAs, Lagers, lots to choose from. Wines and cocktails also available. The beers we had (Driskell Mountain & Christmas Ale) were excellent. Can't wait to visit Lake Charles again to spend more time at the brewery.
