Lake Placid Olympic Museum, Lake Placid

More of an anticipatory 5-star rating than a current 5-star. I imagine that this museum will be something else when they finish, and I look forward to coming back. In the meantime, you can still see some pretty cool artifacts in the free exhibit they have open until construction is finished later this year.

Nice museum. We learned a lot about the Olympics that took place in Lake Placid. There were some fun interactive things for the kids to do. It took us about 1 hour to get through the museum and we read almost everything. Our kids ages 5 and 7 enjoyed it and stayed engaged but they love museums and history. To give it 5 stars it would be to lower the price for children. I understand the adult price and it’s not just here, it’s most places but I think children even up to age 16 should be given a much bigger discount. They’re always accompanied by adults who are paying full price and I think the cost can deter a lot of ppl with larger families and denies them the opportunity to educate their children on these unique experiences because it gets expensive.

Small but interesting Olympic Museum focused mainly on the 1980 Lake Placid games. There is a video about the hockey win. Note that you can visit both the 1932 and 1980 hockey rinks for free, separate from the museum tour.

Great place to visit on a raining day. We came to here while whiteface is closed due to the bad weather, very nice little local museum with history of Winter Olympics hosted twice here, 1932 and 1980. Highly recommended if you have couple hours stay on Main Street area.

Not too much to see, but interesting. And we'll priced if you could see the ice rinks (in 2021 closed for construction) definitely if you need to choose, go to the ski jumps just down the road a few miles. (Unless you are scared of heights...) Lake placid is still an interesting mountain town. Worth a look. Then go watch Miracle on ice...
