What a contrast to the noisy, crowded, commercial Myrtle Beach scene. Vereen is quiet, beautiful and peaceful.

Nice paths to walk. Raised deck walkways on intercoastal. Peaceful to sit and watch the boats go by. Great views.

Nice shady walk from the entrance parking lot. Took the blue trail behind the building to the board walk, then red trail back out. Well marked. Interesting grove where folks have hung oyster shells from the trees. Great change-up from the beach.

Time to step away from the daily grind and simply take in all that nature can offer. And a no better place to relax and unwind is the Vereen Memorial Historical Gardens with its scenic marsh boardwalk and nature trails. Being pet friendly it was nice to have our black lab mix, Bentley, come along for the adventure and he was greatly rewarded with a dip in the water. In 1971 one hundred and fifteen acres was deeded to the Horry County Preservation Commission and in 1973 the Garden was opened to the public. In 2000 fifteen hundred square feet of marsh boardwalks were constructed and in 2008 the C.B. Berry Community Center was built at the entrance as an educational facility. Located in this beautiful park one can explore a number of hiking trails and boardwalk with fishing pier, enjoy park swings, picnic shelters, portable restrooms, old school swing set and dog watering station. Vast marshlands, the shores of the Intracoastal Waterway, Wishing Tree Island and a family cemetery are just a few things on your journey ahead. The sights and sounds are simply yours to enjoy and the best thing is it is free.

Nice little escape from the hustle and bustle! Several miles of trail to walk, run or bike. Home to a wide variety of birds and other small creatures. My favorite spot is "Shell Island"...oyster shells hang from the trees as wishes, when the wind blows they make an amazing wind chime. The only negative words I have are about some of the dogs that I have encountered in there, majority are friendly and leashed (as per requirement) others not so much with some that are in no way conditioned to be around that many strangers. ALSO PLEASE PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOG!
