Locust Grove Train Viewing Platform, Locust Grove

Nice spot in the middle of town in Locust Grove, GA. Years ago it was a quiet place. Moved down this way in 1987. It has grown so fast in the last couple of years.

Great place to watch freight trains pass from this sheltered platform. I was able to see two trains in just over an hour, which was really nice Edit: Went back a second time in March 2022 and didn't disappoint. Stopped there for lunch and got lucky with two intermodal trains in 20 minutes.

Great place to stop and watch trains go by. There are electric outlets. Food nearby. Only thing missing is a bathroom but there are businesses nearby- I had a peach milkshake, I think it was the peach pit or peach-something and it was delicious! We only saw 2 trains in about 2 hours but they say there's usually alot more.

We drove down from Atlanta for an afternoon of railfanning and spent a few hours, here. It's a nice platform with a couple of picnic tables, a working scanner, benches, and ample free parking. The only downside is the traffic noise from the adjacent road. We didn't have much luck seeing trains (it was a holiday), but it was worth coming down.

Great place to view trains. My autistic son loves to come here and view trains from this location. They have a covered platform, fencing to protect people from the railroad, announcements on train work, parking. Please review the schedule before you show up or you might be waiting a while.
