Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse, Manteo

This is a very unique little lighthouse found on Roanoke Island. This was our first time staying on the island and it is packed with very interesting history. We walked to the lighthouse since the island is easy to get atound. The boardwalk surrounding the structure is very nice to walk on, the area is very scenic, calm and relaxing. There is no cost to visit the lighthouse. There was a tour going on at the time we stopped by so we listened in on that. Grab a meal, get out there and check it out.

Another place to visit on the island was the Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse. This actually was very interesting place historically and I found it to be very intriguing. I guess I've never really looked into or cared to study the history of the Roanoke colony and it's disappearance. It's also very interesting that this is the location of the first English colonist born in america. I had no idea that this was the location. We had a good time visiting the lighthouse and the boat repair shop and the Little village shops that they have around here. We also got some really good ice cream at one of the stores. This is a great place to visit and put on your list of things to do while you're visiting the area.

Tiny but adorable!! It was open to the public. We couldn't go up in the "tower" though, no one was there to guide anything. We had to go earlier in the day. Tried another day, later close to dinner hours but it was just too busy and finding a parking place was not happening. This is not the original as it was damaged beyond repair but this one was built based off the print of the original. Posted a pic of the original also to see the resemblance.

Very small but scenic and full of local history and trivia. A small piece of the overall charm of Manteo. Parking is very close

A great little Lighthouse. It is a very short and easy walk from town. A must see if you are in Manteo. Not a ton to do here but the views are worth the stop if you are in town.
