Marblehead Lighthouse State Park, Marblehead

We love visiting the lighthouse!! We love sitting on the rocks and watching the waves and the boats go by. The picnic tables are great too. On certain days the lighthouse is open and for a nominal fee you can climb up and get a great view. The keepers house is open certain days too, so if you like history, it's really neat. A must see for anyone visiting this area!!

Perfect lunch spot! There are large rocks in lovely shaded places to sit behind the Lighthouse and watch the waves of Lake Erie. The parking lot isn't small but may still get crowded or full during the busy times. Nice and clean restrooms - which is great if you are getting back on the road after eating lunch while enjoying the view. We didn't take the time to go up in the Lighthouse which is very unusual for us, but I heard it is $3 and 77 steps for fabulous views. There is also a museum and gift shop on the premises.

A nice little stop but every thing was closed when we got there it was around 4 p.m on a weekday. Not sure if you can actually go into the lighthouse. They do have a gift shop that we weren't able to go into because it was closed. They do have bathrooms there and a nice area to stop and have a lunch. The view is absolutely beautiful. It was windy when we went in September. Seeing all of the rocks and water crashing was beautiful and you get to see cedar point in the distance from the far side of the point. It was not crowded when we went. I think maybe the town knows about the specific hours we never saw the hours, but also never looked for them. Be careful if you go when it's windy to stay away from the trees on the point. We got hit with these "buckaroos" every few seconds and as you can see they are not small. The drive was a nice scenic drive as well as easy to get there.

I love coming here... but I seem to make it here when the lighthouse is closed! This time I was in luck! Even if you stop by and the museum is closed, it is still a great place to visit. You can walk around the base of the lighthouse and watch the waves crash on the shore. You can even let you feet feel the cool Lake Erie water. The views are amazing, especially the view of Cedar Point. But I won't lie! If you stop by during the museum hours AND when the lighthouse is open for tours.... you will catch a view of the area that can't be beat! There are 77 steps to the top and you can walk around the walkway getting a 360 degree view! If you have binoculars, bring them! The view of the nearby islands is stunning! There is a lot to learn about the lighthouse and the men and women who made sure the light stayed burning. If the museum o is closed, there are several informational markers to provide additional details. Also on the grounds is a replica of a US Life Saving Station and restrooms in a separate building.

On the Great Lakes, Marblehead Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse still in service. It has been shown on an American postage stamp, Ohio's licence plates, and is currently a state park in Ohio. Also, this is one of the most famous and frequently photographed landmarks on Lake Erie is the Marblehead Lighthouse. On the Great Lakes, it is the oldest lighthouse still in use. In the summer, visitors can climb to the top of the lighthouse for a spectacular view of the lake and its distant islands. History buffs will enjoy visiting the souvenir store or the recreated lifeguard station. There are also restrooms and picnic areas nearby.
