The Valley of the Gods is a scenic sandstone valley near Mexican Hat in San Juan County, southeastern Utah, United States. Part of Bears Ears National Monument, the Valley of the Gods is located north of Monument Valley across the San Juan River and has rock formations similar to those in Monument Valley with tall, reddish brown mesas, buttes, towers and mushroom rocks, remnants of an ancient landscape. On December 4, 2017, President Donald Trump issued a proclamation that reduced the area of Bears Ears National Monument, proclaimed by President Barack Obama on December 28, 2016, with new monument boundaries that exclude the Valley of the Gods. The area remains protected public land administered as an Area of Critical Environmental Concern and managed by the Bureau of Land Management, as it was before the monument designation.

  • ok would have gave it 5⭐️s, but the road is horrible. we were in a Ram truck, high clearance, & 4x4. no issue for us, just had to drive slow. We saw RVs & low clearance vehicles having issues. That...

  • Drive through during the rosy glow of morning. Yes, it's BLM land and therefore less "formal" than in the parks, but don't be tempted to pull over and wander off into the scrub, you might be hailed.....  more

  • This is a dirt road that will take you about 1-2 hours to drive, with some nice views of the canyon, buttes, etc. Can be done in any vehicle, the road is fairly flat and doesn't require large ground clearance. There are many camp sites along the way, and I think this would be a really cool spot to camp. As a drive-through viewing though, I didn't enjoy it that much. There is no hiking or other way to explore, you just drive along. The scenery is quite nice, but you can have a better experience at a national park in the area.
  • Beyond my expectations. Fantastic formation’s . About 5 miles in the road was washed out. So I’ll go back with my rubicon to finish the route and camp. There’s plenty of scenic sites It’s free!! Only saw 3 cars in 1.5 hours Like the sign says if it rains the road is impassable.
  • Valley of the Gods is an amazing area. I really enjoyed my time there. Not much traffic on the sceneic loop, which afforded me plenty of time to take pictures. As I went further back on the trail there was snow on the ground which really accentuated it beauty. I wish there were brochures on the area, the brochure holder was empty.
  • Off beat dirt roads. Need good ground clearance for some places but can be done using any vehicle. Amazing alternative to the busy Monument Valley experience.
  • Very nice detour from the main road. Similar to Monument Valley but it has its own character and is certainly worth visiting. Narrow and bumpy road but no problem for even a small car.
