Rocky Mountain Outfitters, Midway

We had the best time riding horses at Rocky Mountain outfitters! The scenery was breathtaking. Our trail guide,Emma, was wonderful and made the adventure so much fun. She was friendly and informative and definitely knew a-lot about the horses. She knew what we all needed so we would all have the best experience with the horse we rode . I had two 13 year olds and a 16 year old and they loved it. It was their favorite thing about our trip to Utah. We rode into the mountains and the trip was an hour long, which was perfect. I don’t think any one of us could of rode very much longer. I would definitely recommend adding this to your list of things to do in Utah.

We booked a 90 minute ride in Midway for our son’s 9th birthday. An hour or so into the ride, my son’s horse and mine got spooked when a branch fell in the woods and our horses took off in different directions. Our son intentionally slid and jumped off his horse and he was OK. He did try to stop it but it was much larger and stronger than him so he did what he felt was best and we are so grateful he’s not a timid kid and he figured it out. After he got off it, his horse kept going but quickly came back to the group. Mine ran me through some tall shrub bushes and then I was able to stop him. It was a little terrifying but we’re OK and have a fun story to tell now. Our guide hooked our son’s horse to theirs for the last 15 minutes back to the stables. The guides were friendly, informative and after our incident did ask numerous times if we were OK and we were (our son got right back on his and he thought it was all very exciting)! Me as the mother, not so much. I had no idea what was happening to our son while my horse had me somewhere else. It was a good lesson to be prepared for anything as they can spook very easily. But all in all we enjoyed it and we’d likely come back. The scenery was beautiful and it’s a very quaint area.

So fantastic! Wife review. Loved it! I got to ride Cub, a 16 yr old brown and white paint. He was very obedient. He responded with small movements and vocal instructions. It was helpful to be a bit early and bond with him beforehand. Another horse, Sam Elliott, was in front of me on the trail. He kept trying to eat grass along the way and he threw his rider toward the end of the trail. The tour guide, Austin, was quick to respond and check the fallen rider, who was fine, just a little bruised. She was given the option to ride again or walk the short way back. Cub was quick to obey and wait when we needed to. He likes going uphill better than downhill. But he has a very subdued personality and took the hills very cautiously. The instructions given at the beginning were very clear and helpful.

As an elopement photographer I am always excited for unique requests. I had a client reach out wanting to propose to his girlfriend on a trail ride at Rocky Mountain Outfitters. The staff here were so helpful and kind, and we had a great time doing the post proposal photo shoot. Certainly not part of their normal operations, they were wonderful to work with.

Such a fun experience! I had never ridden a horse the guide Austin gave good instructions/demo before we started on the trail and was very attentive during the ride to ensure everything was going smoothly. It was a beautiful ride. Would definitely recommend visiting Rocky Mountain Outfitters!!
