Create an itinerary including Fallingwater
A Frank Lloyd Wright house built over a waterfall, Fallingwater was named the "best all-time work of American architecture" in 2007 by the American Institute of Architects. The family house was commissioned by Edgar Kaufmann Sr., and Wright welcomed the challenge. Kaufmann once dared to go behind Wright's back to consult an engineer about the risky design. Wright was so offended that he threatened to leave the project. Kaufmann relented, and Wright buried the engineer's report in one of the walls. The house was the Kaufmann family's weekend retreat until 1963, when the family gave it to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, which opened it to the public. Notice the remarkable furniture--Wright designed it specifically for the space. • We rented a cabin near here for the weekend with family. I've always wanted to visit this house so we stopped by on our last day. Tickets were sold out for the indoor tours (they weren't doing many because of Covid), so if you want to do that, book at least a month in advance. That being said, the grounds and outside of the property are incredible. It's such a beautiful house and definitely worth visiting just the outdoor portion too. Plus you can see the inside through the windows. Tickets for that were only $20/person when we went. There are tons of trails you can explore around the grounds too. I'd allow at least 1-2 hours here. It's definitely worth a day trip to visit if you're anywhere near here!
  • A really amazing experience. Seeing pictures and videos cannot do this place justice. The harmony created with nature, and a man-made structure is perfectly balanced. We went on a 30F day in November, but still felt I could imagine what a summer day felt like here with the windows open, and a nice breeze. The grounds are beautiful, and relatively untouched. The home is setback far enough that you’re secluded, and there’s no noise (except the falls). Our guide was Brandon L., and he was great. We opted for the earpiece, which was also very convenient. Nice gift shop.
  • We had Linda as a guide. Wow, was she knowledgeable and friendly. The tour was about an hour long, and she successfully answered questions by all. You can tell she has a true love for Falling Water. I don't understand the complaints. All you simply need to do is READ the website. It lists all the rules, and guidelines. Nothing asked of us was outlandish. Preserving the home for all to see in the future is best. It was our second time visiting, the first time was in the early 1990's. It's amazing how well kept and cared for the home is. Such an amazing place to visit!
  • We happened to be in the area and decided to stop by. Unfortunately, because we did not reserve tickets ahead of time, all the tickets that would give us access to tour the inside of Falling Waters and the grounds were sold out. The only option we had was to purchase tickets to see the grounds to Falling Waters. I have to say that the price of the tickets, $17 per person, just to view the outside grounds, peek in the windows of the house, visit the visitors center, and the museum/store, were worth the cost if you like architecture and take interest in how things are built. This house is a National monument so it was pretty busy while we were here. The price to do the tour that would include a tour of the grounds, the inside of the house, and access to the visitor center and the museum/store was $34 per person. Not sure if I will go back and pay that full price again just to see the inside of the house and take the tour. I feel just peeking into the windows gave me enough of an idea of what the house looks like, but I do think I'd enjoy the info I'd get to hear from the tour guide, so, I don't know, it's a toss up as to whether or not it's worth another $34 per person to get that information or not. It definitely was a cool place to go and see though and I loved the store/museum as it definitely has a lot of cool and interesting things you don't see many places you go. I'm glad that we decided to stop and feel it was worth the the time and I enjoyed seeing it and think it's an interesting piece of history worth checking out.
  • Beautiful. We didn’t have tickets for inside the home, so we just toured the grounds. It was still a great walk and the grounds were lovely. We went off grounds to see the overlook about a half a mile down a path. It was a bit tricky, so wear comfortable shoes and watch where you walk if you go to the overlook. It is a gorgeous view!
