The Montclair Art Museum (MAM) is located in Montclair, New Jersey, United States, a few miles west of New York City. Since it opened in 1914 as the first museum in New Jersey that granted access to the public and the first dedicated solely to art, it has been privately funded. Its collection of more than 12,000 items and its exhibit programs are dedicated to American art and Native American art forms, as well as contemporary art in both those disciplines.Put Montclair Art Museum at the forefront of your travel plans using our Montclair route planner.
The museum sponsors a wide variety of programs in partnership with local organizations and maintains an extensive educational program for all age groups. For decades, MAM's Yard School of Art has provided opportunities for formal instruction to students at both amateur and professional levels.

I really enjoyed this art museum a lot. They had a bunch of different displays and paintings that I was quite interested in. It wasn’t too crowded either, very calm museum. I got to take my time and see everything they have to offer. Great time overall

Beautiful museum - terrible event service. Don't host events here. Not only will they lose your initial deposit and then charge your card almost a year after the fact but, they also won't be present for the event itself to provide support. In the months leading up to our event in May 2022, the coordinator was largely unresponsive to all parties (as in, no email or phone response). Somehow, the day was still pulled together but, none of the event managers or staff were present aside from a lone facilities manager who also quickly disappeared. Now it is January 2023 and my credit card has been charged, adding insult to injury.

I went on a Saturday and I guess they rented out the downstairs part to some party…the noise from the party could be heard throughout the museum so it was distracting. Add to that some little kids running around and it was really hard to relax. I did not really enjoy the exhibitions either. I’m not a huge fan of modern art and I was expecting to see some permanent collection with more classical pieces in addition to that but there was none. Overall I felt like I wasted $15. I really hate leaving low ratings for museums but this is probably one of the worst museums I’ve ever been too :(

Went to the First Free Thrusday Holiday Market

Quite a nice art museum. I particularly enjoyed the display about an artist who painted the images in storybooks. Really quite powerful.
