Create an itinerary including Charles W. Morgan
Charles W. Morgan is an American whaling ship built in 1841 that was active during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Ships of this type were used to harvest the blubber of whales for whale oil which was commonly used in lamps. Charles W. Morgan has served as a museum ship since the 1940s and is now an exhibit at the Mystic Seaport museum in Mystic, Connecticut. She is the world's oldest surviving (non-wrecked) merchant vessel, the only surviving wooden whaling ship from the 19th century American merchant fleet (of an estimated 2,700 built), and second to the USS Constitution, the oldest seaworthy vessel in the world. The Morgan was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966.

  • Go below decks on this historic ship and you will be amazed that men spent years aboard it. The quarters are so cramped and the ceilings so low. It's wonderful that Mystic Seaport has kept this...

  • The village is a trip into life 150 years ago. The ships are great, but the details like how the rope is made, the pharmacy, barrels, sails, all of it is amazing.

  • Mystic seaport is a 5 star exhibition id you're interested in maritime history
  • A great ship to visit they did a great job on the restoration..watch you head while walking through.
  • The Museum closes early and there is no access to the port when it is closed. The area is fenced.
  • History was made during the summer of 2014 when Mystic Seaport Museum took the last remaining wooden whaleship in the world back to sea. Following a five-year restoration, the Charles W. Morgan sailed on her 38th Voyage to New England ports-of-call, raising awareness of America’s maritime heritage and calling attention to issues of ocean sustainability and conservation.
