Yale University Art Gallery displays art from nearly all cultures, but it's most famous for its collection of early Italian paintings, African sculptures, and modern art. Located in several buildings on the university campus, the gallery also houses world-renowned collections of American decorative and fine arts from as far back as the 17th century. Of particular note is the small collection of rare American silver. Opened in 1832, the gallery recently underwent renovations to connect three separate galleries while maintaining their distinct architectural styles; it reopened in 2012. Great art work!! Multiple floors. State of the art museum. Best of all, it’s free! The facility is located on the Yale University grounds.

What a marvelous experience - this is a " mini MET" and not so mini at that! The breadth of art is incredible - a world tour of art from all eras and locations. Don't miss it. And it's free!

I love going to museums and when they are free, that’s the best. Well I gotta say that this might be the best one I’ve ever been to. I was not honestly expecting much but I made the day trip up from NYC and I just loved it. The art on display is amazing. You can really get lost in everything that they have to offer. Parking wasn’t too hard to get on a Sunday. And the staff was very friendly. They do have lockers for your stuff so that was helpful. The only thing that they didn’t have was any kind of gift shop because I collect magnets from my trip and they didn’t have anything to add to my collection.

Amazing place with many different artists and exhibitions! Unbelievable that is completely free!! It has four levels in total, you will definitely need a whole day to enjoy the gallery at its fullest. I highly recommend this place.

I highly recommend this place. The gallery is exquisite. The masterpieces they have on display are amazing! Where would you get this kind of thing anywhere else? Thank you for keeping it free and available to the public. What an amazing place to visit. Highly recommend.

This is not just your ordinary university gallery - it is a world-class museum! The collection is extensive (both geographically and historically) and well laid out - in fact, I enjoyed it even more than some of the larger, more well known galleries I've been to. Aside from the exhibits, the architecture was an amazing (without being incoherent) blend of historic, brutalist and modernist styles. I spent around 2 hours and that still felt rather rushed. If you want to get through all of the galleries at a leisurely pace, you'd want to budget at least double that amount of time. And make sure you get to visit the outdoor terrace! Even better is the free entry. What more could you ask for?

Great museum with tons of collections. It’s free. No one can see through all collections at once, so focus on what interests you! The staffs are helpful and have passion for the history of the building.
