Create an itinerary including Hallett Nature Sanctuary
Nestled in the southeast corner of Central Park, Hallett Nature Sanctuary remains a tranquil oasis for bird-watchers and the smallest of the park's three woodlands. The sanctuary was restored in 2001--along with the pond that surrounds it--and reopened for public in 2013 after being closed for nearly 80 years. Explore the unpaved but smooth paths lined by native trees and wildflowers, many of which are labeled, and keep an eye open for migratory birds, turtles, raccoons, and squirrels. • Nice little spot in Central park where you can avoid the crowds. Only saw a handful of people while in there and there were plenty of places to sit and relax.

  • Hallett Nature Sanctuary is pristine wilderness within Central Park segregated from human intervention. Here the walk through the natural wilderness gives you a sense of the historic wild habitat...

  • Mice and quite and a small sanctuary. Worth a visit and some photos. New York’s better parts and a bit hidden away.

  • This is a great area within Central Park. We loved the cute benches and railings made of repurposed branches. The pathway was comfortable and soft under foot, made with compressed wood chips. The views and lookout points all offer different beautiful views and perspectives. The paths are well maintained and we did see some wildlife. (Birds, squirrels) The native landscaping and flowers were lovely. We will definitely be back!
  • ✨ Absolutely lovely ✨ A really peaceful break from the sidewalk. I went on a weekday afternoon and only came across two couples, so you can actually get away mentally. The birds seemed happy over here.
  • This area is gradually waking up from winter. Not much plants but the wooden landscaping structure gives it natural vibe, contrasting with city life.
  • Right in the heart of Central Park is this small wonderful nature trail! Heavy wooded, giving a break from the sun. Hi
  • One of my favorite Central Park spots. It’s hidden and quiet so you feel like you are out in the woods and not in the middle of one of the world’s busiest cities. Also, it’s one of the best locations in the park to view wildlife, and especially birds. There are a few observations decks along the trail, they are gorgeous. You can find a live video of this beautiful location on my Facebook page.
