  • The long drive on the sandy roads to get to the lighthouse is well worth it. You will be rewarded with amazing views of the lake and the lighthouse itself is gorgeous. You can climb up the tower, and the gift shop is staffed by some lovely volunteers in the summer. We were there in the beginning of July, but we have been there via snowmobile which is equally awesome. Just don't try to go there unless you are on a snowmobile in the winter. Part of the road is the snowmobile trail so if you drive it in a car or truck, you will get stuck, not to mention it is illegal and dangerous to drive on the snowmobile trails.
  • Very beautiful off-grid lighthouse! You have to drive on dirt roads to get to it, but it's worth the drive. Make sure to bring water and snacks. Climbing to the top of the spiral staircase you get spectacular views of Lake Superior. Then when you come back down, you can hunt for rocks!
  • OMG! This was one of the most beautiful lighthouses I have been to in Michigan. It is a long (18.5 mile) drive off the main road. The 18.5 mile drive to the lighthouse is by way of a dirt, winding, at times narrow, bumpy road. It is so very worth it though! It is breathtaking! The lighthouse is kept very well. There is a great gift shop and there are also bathrooms. There are plenty of boardwalks and lots of beach front to walk and explore. We went on Memorial Day 2022. It wasn't that busy at all. We climbed to the top of the lighthouse and we're actually the only people at the top. The lighthouse operates by donations. Admission is free. However, there are donation boxes, please give what you can. Every bit helps to keep these lighthouses preserved and maintained for everyone to enjoy and learn about Michigan history. It is easy to walk around because of the boardwalks. I'd say as far as physical exertion it's an easy tour. It's the drive back the 18.5 miles on the dirt road that gets you😂 but you'll be delighted when you reach the lighthouse! Definitely, try to see this lighthouse tour if you can. You'll be happy you did! Your vehicle will be filthy though😂
  • Lovely place, staffed by volunteers. You may climb the lighthouse at no cost. There are "real" restrooms and a gift shop. Beautiful scenery right on Lake Superior. It is 20 miles off 123 on a mostly clay and sand road which is sometimes quite narrow. Don't bring a car that is very low to the ground, as this could be a problem. I had no cell service during this drive and there are no street lights. Be ready for a long wait for help if you get in to trouble.
  • This absolutely one of my favorite spots on earth so far. The lighthouse can be toured and the beach is clean and beautiful. It's a bit of an off road drive but you can do it if all is dry and there is no snow.
