Create an itinerary including Cliff Walk
Cliff Walk is a 5.6 km (3.5 mi) public access walkway that takes you along Newport’s shoreline. The walk is famous for its views, which combine some of the area’s most famous Gilded Age mansions with the striking natural beauty of the rugged coast. Though the majority of the walk is paved, the south end is not, and you will have to scramble on some rocks. It is important to wear walking shoes and tread carefully, as the fine sand that coats the rocks can make them slippery. Bring a bottle of water with you. • Nice walk in the brisk winter. Places to sit and rest. Parking at Eatons Beach area (since it was off season)

  • This was one of the most amazing trail I have ever gone to. Literally, every 1 minute walk, we encounter a new magnificent view of the ocean, rocks on the way, places, etc. there was a beach less than 5 minutes walk from the trail. We took the walk at 7:00 pm and we reached the end at about 9:00 pm. Yes, it will take more time if you stay longer to take photos or watch the ocean. After about half an hour walk, we reached a restroom. There was water tap as well. We saw people fishing on the way down to the trail. If you want to be surprised for each scene, I highly recommend this place. You can find the proof from my photos.
  • I walked from breakers to the north end of cliff walk. Its about 1.2 miles one way. Its beautiful. The view of Atlantic ocean is amazing. There are several points where you could get down and also several points to take photos. Make sure to wear comfortable and sturdy shoes.
  • The Cliff Walk has the unique combination of ocean views with views of various Mansions along the way, including the Breakers, and a very cool outcrop for a beautiful gazebo. Deciding where to start/park wasn’t particularly obvious, so we had to park a couple times until we found our way on foot to the apparent “entrance”. A good portion of it was paved and fairly easy to navigate, until you get to the “end” where it dumps you into the rocks. Pretty fun…. Probably goes without saying…. But…. Lots of beautiful views!
  • First time on the cliff walk and it was really great experience. Even though it was really nice day out there wasn’t too many people because I wouldn’t kind of late, definitely cold in the shadows for me. Will definitely come back here as they’ve made a detour towards the middle and we didn’t get to see it all. Judging by the pictures of those posted the best parts are further along!
  • Good walk with great nature views. There was some construction going on so had to do a detour but allowed us to see more of St. Regina University. The mansions it goes by are not very visible in summer as they mostly have large hedges in front of their fences so not the best way to see the houses along the coast if that’s what you’re going for in the summertime. Pictured is university building which you can see from the trail this and a few others. Not a lot of shaded areas so is a bit hot. Great views though of the water and cliffs - gives a vibe of a smaller coast of wales or Ireland.
