Take a walk through American architectural history as you view Newport Mansions. The Preservation Society of Newport cares for the mansions and keeps 11 of the 14 properties open to the public. Book a tour through The Breakers, one of the most luxurious summer haunts of the Vanderbilts, or Marble House, where the former Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt built a Chinese tea house on the cliffs over the sea. The glamour and opulence continue in nine other restored houses, all representing different periods in architecture dating back to the late 18th century. Visit the Green Animals Topiary Garden to bushes that are sculpted seasonally. Consider purchasing a ticket for all 11 houses online before you go. Work out when and for how long to visit Newport Mansions and other Newport attractions using our handy Newport trip app.

These homes were absolutely stunning and is a must see if in Newport Rhode Island. Priced well only $34 to see two of the homes and to be able to take as long as you like touring the homes and the grounds. It’s also a place to see some rooms that they are filming the new show the Gilded Age.

This is an amazing experience that you really have to have. I've traveled extensively in Europe and some of these houses rival those. Easy parking and access, the guides and ticket takers are very nice, and the houses don't disappoint. Only downside is you'll go back home and realize you live in a hovel. Wealth aside, what is really amazing about these houses is the craftsmanship what went into every detail: the ceiling mouldings, the stairs, the fireplace mantels, etc. One suggestion: Get a membership instead of just buying tickets; it's the same price as the "trio" tour of three homes, and can be used for a year as many times as you'd like.

Bad experience every time. The staff is literally as rude as can be, there are 2 times out of the 20+ times i have been to the mansions i have encountered kind staff. They are ageist, they look you up and down and if you're not above the age of 35 you have absolutely no respect. I happen to be a student who enjoys the mansions and every single time i go if i'm not given a hard time at the door about why i have a membership and if it's my parents and not mine, i am followed throughout the entire exhibit and can not even enjoy it. i don't know if they think a teen can not enjoy the mansions without causing trouble? i don't know why every single time i go i do not get an ounce of respect when i have a 200$ membership. no matter the mansion, no matter the staff they're always rude and ageist, and extremely judgmental. get kinder staff that treat everyone with respect no matter their age or what they look like. I will be canceling my membership. after the 10th time i have had this experience and realized it is not a coincidence.

It was a dream come true to finally be able to explore the mansions along the cliff walk. The guided and audio tours were fascinating. I hope to return soon.

Lovely mansions. Only two out ten were open to visit during our visit in November.
