Swallow Falls State Park is a public recreation area located on the west bank of the Youghiogheny River nine miles (14 km) northwest of Oakland in Garrett County, Maryland, in the United States. The state park features Maryland's highest free-falling waterfall, the 53-foot (16 m) Muddy Creek Falls, as well as smaller waterfalls on the Youghiogheny River and Tolivar Creek. • This is a great park. It has maintained trails if you have a group that needs a level walking surface. For the more adventurous, take the trail from one falls to the next right along the river.

  • Rented a cabin for a weekend in June and brought the kids. The cabin and site was excellent: clean and orderly. There was an overhead fan in the cabin, a mini fridge, queen bed and twin bunk beds: perfect for a family of four. There was a picnic bench and fire ring. The bath house was surprisingly clean. There’s also a place to wash dishes. There is a convenient place to dump trash and recycle plastics. This park is not dog friendly so I’d recommend boarding your dog. There are several jungle gyms and swing sets for the kids. The trail system was excellent, beautiful old trees and several remarkable waterfalls. The camp store sells ice, firewood, soda, snacks, shirts, camping gear, etc. The weekend seemed to be busy so be prepared to share the trails with lots of large groups. We didn’t see any wildlife except for some deer, squirrels, and birds. The nearby town of Oakland has a few interesting spots including the B&O Railroad Museum and the Garrett County Museum of Transportation. This is a beautiful state park and I’d highly recommend it!
  • A very nice park with walk paths and trails. The main walk path is a wide gravelly path with many over looks of the falls. The trail along the water takes you down a good solid trail (it is a rocky trail in places not flat) from one water fall to the next. A very beautiful scenic trail with many chances to get at the water edge with several exits up to the gravelly path. I have been there twice (fall and spring) and would definitely visit again!
  • Great place for a quick weekend hike especially if you're around deep creek lake. The hike isn't too tiring and the view at the end of it is so worth it. There are at least 2-3 waterfalls in the state park (if not more) and they're gorgeous. And if you're particularly adventurous, there are a couple spots where you can dive into the water too!
  • Amazing State Park in Garrett County MD. Only one real trail. But, get both Muddy Creek Falls, Swallow Falls and Tolliver Falls. Trail is only 1 1/4 miles with some elevation using stairs. Parking is limited and this is very popular, so can be crowded. But views of the falls are spectacular, especially in winter. Best park in Garrett. Highly recommended.
  • What a great place to visit when in town! Parking is ample, but you have limited to no cell reception. Be sure to download an offline version of any map apps you use prior to going. Trails are clearly marked and there are many visitors walking throughout the park. There is a designated picnic area and public restrooms. The entire walking tour of the falls is between 45-60 minutes. Be cautious about bringing strollers. Many visitors had dogs with them. Looking forward to coming back! While there is a toll booth, a suffested donation varies from $3 for current MD residents and $5 for non-residents. Again, this is a suggested donation you can provide through a payment chute.
