I always visit the British Cemetery on every trip to Ocracoke. This trip I was able to bike to it early on a Sunday morning. The flags were at half mast to pay respects to Queen Elizabeth's passing.

Interesting but unable to walk through cemetery. Think it is very commendable of community that they want to make sure the former settlers are remembered.

It is good to know the memorials to the lives and sacrafices of our allies are still well cared for honored on our soil as ours our in Europe. This is a remembrance of the war off of the Eastern Coast and America's negligence early in the war. Next is an old cemetery for the inhabitants of the island that appears very interesting but creepy.

Very cool place to reflect on the history of the area. You can access this directly from the road. Parking is not abundant so walk or bike if you can.
-
The battles along the Atlantic Coast have mostly been forgotten. Great to see a well kept resting place for these men.

The British Cemetery was created in May 1942 for four sailors, two known and two unknown, that washed ashore from the HMS Bedfordshire after she was torpedoed by German U-boat. To this day the United States Coast Guard station at Ocracoke maintains the property. A British flag flies at all times over the graves of those British sailors. The flag is replaced each year with a new one sent by the Queen of England.

This is a fascinating historical landmark on the island. It's a short, free visit with a small parking lot and very little walking required.
