Wharton Esherick Museum, Paoli

EXCELLENT LOCAL GEM practically in our backyard. We've driven by the sign for over 20 years, and finally made the decision to go. Really interesting story and beautiful sculptures. The tour guide provided lots of great information about Wharton Esherick's and his evolution in his art. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars, is because those with disabilities would not be able to access the house/ workshop. Part of the tour is going up some very narrow stairs. Well worth it, and very interesting. They can't really open it up without damaging the property, so I understand why they left things intact. I also felt very safe, because all tour members were required to wear a mask properly the entire time, and show proof of vaccination. They also kept the tour groups to 6 people or less.

Just a lovely experience. The tour group was small in keeping with the cozy spaces we were visiting. It was an amazing and intimate view into a talented artist's craft and life. Just as a note, the tour may be challenging for those with mobility issues.

Really a hidden gem if you are into nature (wood working, functional furniture as art) and whimsy.
