Petersburg National Battlefield consists of four units spanning across 37 miles of land in South Side Virginia. From June, 1864 - April, 1865 Union forces sought to cut off all supply lines into the City in order to starve the Confederate troops who were protecting Richmond's main supply base. Four visitor centers, a park tour road, and self-guided trails provide an opportunity for visitors to learn more about the longest military event of the Civil War in which 70,000 soldiers became casualties.See Petersburg National Battlefield Park and all Petersburg has to offer by arranging your trip with our Petersburg trip app.

What amazing history. The rangers are very well educated and can answer any questions. The cannons were amazing. The trail was clean. Its just an amazing peice of history. Even for a quick stop. My kids enjoyed learning about the history. Taking just a moment to admire, appreciate, and respect the sacrifice that was taken for our country to move toward equality. Highly recommend.

Staff at the visitors center was very helpful and knowledgeable. This place was so nice to walk around and see all the history. There is so much to see and walk through here it amazing. I love how they’ve preserved what they could and have started to fix some of the things falling apart. Would definitely recommend stopping by and checking them out if you have the time. We only had time to make it through the east half but are going back tomorrow to finish the west half.

Great place! A very important battle that was fought here and one of the turning points of the Civil War. Didn't get to see any of the trails but I hope too soon, as I've heard they are nice. Gift shop was a little pricey but that's to be expected. I'd suggest checking to see if there are any closures though, as when I visited the main road throughout the park was closed and I had to walk across it.

This park, like so many others, has so much history to see.The Dictator, the largest cannon used in the war, can be seen by walking the grounds at the visitors center. There is also a driving tour with good directions available. Be sure to take the crater trail.

Nice drive through the park. Lot of trails all around and the markers tell the story well. Good place to get away or look for wildlife. Bring water and snacks, great place to let kids roam.
