As one of the largest urban forests in the United States, Forest Park has a great network of trails for walking, hiking, biking, and even horse-back riding. The Willwood Trail, being the most significant, has about 48.6 km (30.2 mi) worth of trail and will give you an opportunity to check out the extensive plant and animal life located in this 2,064 hectare (5,100 acre) park. Bobcats, flying squirrels, and elk, are among the mammal species found here while birds such as owls and woodpeckers are common. Vegetation can vary from berry bushes to numerous tree species to violet and trillium wildflowers. Rain within the park is frequent so make sure to bring a rain coat.
