Create an itinerary including Sundial Bridge
Stretching 213 m (700 ft) across the Sacramento River, Sundial Bridge gives visitors easy access to a nearby park and also claims to be one of the world's largest timepieces of its kind. The bridge's 66 m (217 ft) tall tower acts as the "hand" of the sundial, holding the structure entirely above the water, and you'll find that markers on a nearby plaza provide the clock on which the shadow falls. Marvel at the bridge's design, which incorporates decorative glass, tiles, and translucent structure pieces that make the profile extremely distinctive. • We had a really great time at the Sundial Bridge. Walking on the river walk, the Turtle Bay Museum and checking out the bridge which is very cool. The Sacramento River has great trails with wildlife all around. The trail near the bridge includes a beautiful garden with educational stops for everyone. The Turtle Bay Museum and it's grounds were fun for all of us, including my fifteen year old daughter. She interacted with birds in the Parrot House and butterflies, and zipped on the zip-line in the playground. I'm sure her favorite part was the butterflies though, as we spent well over an hour in the butterfly house. In the museum there was a hand on educational room that has really fun activities about prehistoric flying reptiles, Pterosaurs. A whole room displaying replicas of the items discovered in King Tutankhamun. Pretty fascinating. There is a cafe that is currently being remodeled but Mosaic Restaurant was open. If you are unfamiliar with reading it's very hot in the summer months and stays pretty warm until October. I recommend sunblock and if your heat sensitive the indoor part of the museum and Mosaic restaurants during the summer. Otherwise visit early or in the evening I know they open at 9:00 a.m. the bridge and trails are always open but not all of the grounds.
  • I loved this place! This is a nice place for peaceful walks surrounded by nature. The people is really polite and friendly in the Sundial Bridge shop and coffee as well. I was impressed about how much they are encouraging awareness 'avoiding fires in the forests.' Well done! Taking care of our planet is extremely important.
  • What a lovely place! Bridge made with glass is so beautiful and gives you a relaxing walk however due to the snowy season I was a little careful. A museum is there after the parking and then bridge taking to the garden. Loved it
  • Gardens, trails, museum, oh my!! Fantastic place for a romantic afternoon or a blast with this kids. It's amazing walking on the bridge of glass. Stop and take in the river view halfway.
  • Visited the city over a weekend. Beautiful view of the Redding sunset! Very clean and calm environment. The electric scooters were all dead or on low battery according to the app, so that was kinda of a bummer. Overall though it’s a cool spot :)
