Carpenter Creek Cellars is the full realization of two dreams: Ed Courtright wanted to grow grapes in northern Indiana to supply wineries in the area, and Randy Rottler hoped to start a small winery. After meeting and discussing some preliminary business ideas, Randy and Ed took a third partner and created a dynamic partnership, starting a small winery and vineyard. Carpenter Creek Cellars began construction in late 2011/early 2012, opening to the public March 23, 2013.

Ed's first grapes were planted in 2002, with the help of his son Byron (these grapes are now known as "Byron's Vineyard"). The "Big Vineyard" (1.1 acres of Traminette) followed Byron's Vineyard in March 2012. With vineyards taking root (and plans for more acreage as the winery progresses) and a restored 1919 barn with great growth potential, we desire to share our passion for fine wines and good times with northwestern Indiana and our out-of-town visitors.

Come and visit us - we offer free daily tastings, weekend tours, music events, and plenty of Midwestern hospitality.

  • If you go visit carpenter creek cellars, remember their business is in a big red barn. Please don't go to their neighbors house thinking it's the winery and just walk in. Respect others that live...

  • We had visited three other area wineries and had time for just one more. This one is the most country of the bunch. The decor is country, the sound system delivers authentic old country classicvs...

  • The winery setting was very pleasant. The wine tasting areas were relaxing and staff quite knowledgeable about the wine we were tasting. They have a variety of red and white wines which we found...

  • Off the beaten path yet well worth the visit. Their wall map shows visitors from all over the world. Good wines, a very knowledgeable tasting room manager and great conversation. Really enjoyed it.
  • Tasty selection of whites and reds, staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Spent the night via our Harvest Hosts membership. Recommended visit!
  • Really quaint place with a great staff. We met Randy Rotter, the head Winemaker, and he talked about his passion for making great wines and experimenting with new items, like bourbon barrels from Four Roses to make an interesting Zinfandel. We were there at harvest; my son even got to help pick grapes!
  • My wife and I stopped here on our way to Indianapolis. Ed guided our tasting, he is one of the owners whose family started the vineyards. You could taste 5 wines for free, and we ended up buying 3-4 bottles. I will definitely be back next time. The Port is so good, and their dog Port is amazing as well.
  • Package acquired!!!!! Last year we came here for the first time and fell in love with their seasonal blackberry bliss wine. Followed their fb page and noticed it was back again and came here as soon as we could! Can’t wait to get home chill it and have a delicious glass of happiness tonight!!!!! ❤️
