Noted for its Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc wines, Cakebread Cellars offers seven types of tours and wine tastings. Spread throughout 397 hectares (982 acres) of land, the company has 13 vineyard sites and employs quality-improvement techniques, such as nighttime harvesting and oak barrel aging for some of its reserve Chardonnays. The winery also produces Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Zinfandel wines. You can pre-register for one of several tours to see an in-depth review of winemaking practices from planting to harvesting to tastings of reserve-label wines or private group-tasting events. Wine and food pairing tours happen twice weekly. Reservations are required for all tours. To visit Cakebread Cellars on your trip to Rutherford, use our Rutherford day trip tool.

The wine tasting experience was great and our host, Jeff, was excellent. The wines, as always, were top notch. The problem is the fulfillment of any wine order you place. Be prepared for delays...

I came here with my husband on a Thursday afternoon to enjoy a tasting. Our tour started right on time with Art and I can't say enough great things about it. Art was so informative, funny, and engaging that he truly made the trip! It helped as well that the grounds were stunning of course and there was lovely wine. The wine was very good, I was a big fan of their chardonnay which wasn't buttery or oakey at all. Honestly I enjoyed everything that we tried. I'd highly recommend a stop in. You aren't able to go around the grounds unfortunately but you do get to enjoy a nice walk around parts of it on the tour.

Had a great time with friends on a Sunday afternoon here! Our server, Zachary, was so nice and funny. He made our time so enjoyable and the depth of knowledge he had in wine was amazing. The venue is gorgeous, and there's a nice back seating area where we had the wine tasting. The selection was good and it didn't feel crowded at all. Would definitely come back!

A staple of Napa valley. A must visit if you will. The tasting menu and the aesthetics of venue are amazing. It was raining when I visited which meant we got a chance to sit inside. You get the impression you’re in a Scandinavian ultra modern cabin when you pop in through what seems like a secret wooden door. The wines are fabulous and service is superb!

Woah, what an experience! This is the best wine tour experience I’ve ever had in my life, much recommended. Napa has always been our favorite place for wine tasting and this time I chose cakebread cellars for the sustainable wine tour tasting experience for my wife’s birthday. To start with, we were greeted well and had a smooth checkin experience. Our host Dean was amazing, it was a lot of fun listening to him, he really made our experience even better by giving us so much information. The tour lasted for about 1.5 hours. We walked through vineyards and learnt the difference in wine making for red and whites. We also got to see where wine is kept after the juice is extracted from grapes and got to taste fresh grapes from the vineyard. During this experience, we got to try their reserve collection of wines that doesn’t get distributed elsewhere. A little expensive as it costs 75$ per person but was totally worth. I wish they could offer some discount when you buy anything from there after the tour especially coz you pay 75$ for the experience, that’s just my two cents. We also bought a bottle of their 2022 reserve collection sauv blanc, loved all the wines served during our tasting. If you are a wine enthusiast wanting to know how the wine gets into a bottle from the vineyard grape, this is for you, I’d surely recommend it.

Loved this winery so much I became a club member. Upon arrival, the front desk checked us in with a taster of their chardonnay. We then walked to an open lounging area, and met our host Zach, who then took on us a short tour to another area where we did our tasting. Zach was great. He's not only knowledgeable about the wine and history of the winery, but he made tasting super fun. Don't forget to tip your host people! After the tasting, Zach took us on a short tour outside where the grapes grow. He even took photos of us; apparently, he's a good photographer as well. Ha! He knew exactly what the best lighting, angle and position would be for a picture-perfect result. Now about the wine. It's sooo yummy. I fell in love with their wine about three years ago when my boss gave me a case, which I believe is the cab. Finally, years later, we were able to make a trip to the winery to try all the varietals. We are happy with our 6-bottle a quarter club membership and will see where this takes us. Have had great hosts at other wineries through the years, but Zach definitely made this visit a memorable one.
