Create an itinerary including Old Burying Point Cemetery
Established in 1637, Old Burying Point Cemetery is the second oldest known cemetery in the United States, featuring headstones so old that some are crumbling. Look for the burial spot of John Hathorne--apart from being the great-great grandfather of the famous writer Nathaniel Hawthorne, he was also the judge during the infamous Salem Witch Trials. Although no one knows where the victims of the trial were buried, a memorial has been erected at this cemetery. Numerous other intriguing people rest here as well, illustrating Salem's eerie and colorful past. • Don't miss it. This is a must see. Try to see with a tour so you get the background. Cool to visit in the evening.

  • Be sure to check the opening times for the cemetery before you visit and pick up a leaflet so you know what you are looking at and where to find the graves connected to the 1692 Salem Witch Trials...

  • If you've already taken the time to stop in Salem, this little cemetery is worth a visit. Very old graves and the tombstones are interesting. There is an area where the tombstones are moved by the growth of a tree. It doesn't take long to walk through, you have to stay on the path so many of them you can't get up close and personal with, but it's still very interesting.
  • - a nice little walk through history. - this is only open in the morning / afternoon. - you have to stay on the gravel paths, you will get fined if you wander off it. - supposedly haunted. - a nice place to take pics of. - be respectful when visiting here! - recommend for sure.
  • What a cool experience. Got to walk along the path, and see some very old tombstones 15 and 1600s. It's amazing how well some of these stones have held up and how some haven't. Definitely an interesting place to visit. If you're in the area.
  • Great cemetery to visit and one of the oldest in the United States. You are asked to stay on the path. There are gravestones that date back to the 1600's
  • The ghost tours are amazing! Enough to give you the chills to be exact! Loved the vibe and the interesting facts about it. Tried to see if I could catch any spirits around, but I don’t think that happened. They did some new path renovation inside too bad it’s closed at night.
