  • Great place to sit on the big steps and take some great photos. Very picturesque. Part of Salem's history.

  • Interesting house across from the maritime site. Check out the amazing architecture on the custom house and then see the rest of the site.

  • This historic building is owned and operated by the National Park Service through Salem Maritime National Historic Site. Visit the exhibits inside to learn about the history of the area, including author Nathaniel Hawthorne. This building is not always open to the public, so plan accordingly.
  • The building is beautiful from exterior. It was closed during our visit on a weekend in late April 2023 so we're couldn't see from inside. It also seems like under repair right now
  • Worth the stop for sure. Some great history inside from Hawthorne and the building itself has some great historical value. The national parks people working are a wealth of knowledge make sure to stop and ask them about the customs house. They have some great information to share with you.
  • Historic and beautiful. Really just an interesting part of american history often over looked, a great stop for anyone in town and the golden eagle out front just is wonderful
  • It is definitely worth the visit. It gives you a perspective to socio-economic life in Salem beyond the infamous witch trials. It is a nice historical building with preserved artifacts from glorious days of sea trade. There is also additional exhibits in the back of the building which is rarely visited but provides great photo opportunities. If you are lucky, the visit will be even better with a great guide from the national park service.
