Diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia shortly after he turned two years old, Ben Layton bravely battled the disease through chemotherapy, radiation, and a bone-marrow transplant. Sadly, all that medicine could offer was not enough to save Ben's young life. Aware that he was going to die, Ben daydreamed about the new life he would have after his death and was certain that he would receive not only angel wings, but red angel wings - his favorite color. Ben received his wings on May 29, 2002, just three months after his fourth birthday.

Inspired by Ben's bravery and in celebration of his spirit, the Ben's Red Swings Community Playground idea was born. The red swings recall Ben's red angel wings and will help all children who play here to share in the soaring joy of childhood.

    This is a huge playground complete with sandy area, slides, swings, little hiding placing. Kids about 10 and under love this place. Parents can join in or sit nearby.

    Lots for kids to do, and there's a separate tot lot as well as a sandbox. Easy to get to, plenty of parking. Bathrooms on site, although there are bathrooms at the adjacent zoo. Clean, too. Highly...

    Great park for kiddos of all ages. Occasionally there will be a lingering creepy person (I’ve never seen one but read about it on Facebook) The sandbox is packed with toys for all to use and SO much space for kids to run! The best part is that it’s right next to the FREE zoo!

    Ben's Red Swings is a wonderful playground! It is right next to the Salisbury Zoo! It has lots of equipment, and is in the shade for a lot of the day. It even has a bathroom! The kids and I have spent a lot of time here!

    Salisbury's tiny human community hub!! My grandchildren give this 2 thumbs up, 4 high 5's and 2 first bumps. As a result, I give it 5 stars.
