Create an itinerary including Temple Square
Bustling Temple Square is home to a number of tourist attractions, including a large complex owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Family History Library, the largest genealogical library in the world, is a favorite stop. Here, you can delve into your ancestors' past. If you are not a Mormon, you cannot enter the Salt Lake Temple that dominates the square, but you still can explore the grounds and admire the exterior of this striking, 19th-century structure. Pop into the visitor center to see a diorama of the inside of the temple. Learn more about Mormonism at the Church History Museum, home to a large collection of Latter-day Saint artifacts and artwork. Approach a missionary or volunteer docent for a free tour of the square. Using our online itinerary creator, Salt Lake City attractions like Temple Square can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • What a beautiful and solemn experience. We were in Salt Lake City for one day and, at the end of the day, we heard that the Choir was practicing. So we raced to hear them. Beautiful and inspiring. 07/08/2022 EDIT: Please be aware that the main temple is currently being renovated/reinforced. So, it is covered with scaffolding and the towers are gone.
  • As we walked the square during the very cold evening, there were no people, and ultimately, no views of the Chapel...as there was a full-on construction project being done with a full-on 10' fence with razors surrounding the Chapel. They even had the surrounding block dug out to sub levels of the street. Amazing to see this scale of change being done right in the middle of the square! It's really something to be seen first hand... especially at night. Looking forward to the progress and ultimately the finished product. Amazing
  • The temple is still under construction and it’s entirely covers with scaffolding. Hard to see any details. There are some historic buildings open for self guided tours. There are many volunteers who will answer questions. Worth the time.
  • Nice, beautiful architecture. Beautiful grounds. I came late about 7 pm. So my pictures maybe a bit dark. I need to go earlier. I hear there is a band playing at noon everyday. Very disappointed no one came to covert me!! Kidding. There was a nice couple that meet me to say hello. Very welcoming.
  • Wonderful experience with my older children (8+) while going to see Music and the Spoken Word on Easter! We were there for the first performance since the start of the pandemic and they were truly marvelous! I would highly recommend attending on a Sunday morning and taking it all in!
