Create an itinerary including Cabrillo Tide Pools
Observe sea life in its natural habitat at Cabrillo Tide Pools, accessible by a 1.6 km (1 mi) hike on the western side of Point Loma. Take in views of rugged sea cliffs, see delicate ocean ecosystems at work, and search for local plants and animals. During low tide, pools of water collect in pockets near the shore, and in them you can view octopi, barnacles, and more hidden creatures. Strolling along the shore beside these tide pools is a wonderful way to discover the coast, but be careful not to slip on mossy rocks. The website advises to consult with an onsite ranger or volunteer before your short hike to ensure you don't harm this sensitive environment. • "up close and personal" w/ the ocean. There is nothing but the sheer enjoyment of nature and that alone is worth the short drive, relatively easy stroll, and time just watching the tides.
