Aptly named, Sunset Cliffs Natural Park features 2.4 km (1.5 mi) of sandstone cliffs in hues that mirror a golden sunset along the Pacific Ocean. For some of the best sights, take the coastal trail along the boulevard to reach rocky hills, sandy arches, and coves. At the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Ladera Street, you can take the stairs down to the beach during low tide. The 28 hectares (68 acres) park connects with Point Loma Reserve, a protected coastal habitat. • A bit remote. It is located In a residential area. Not well maintained trails. Great sunsets. Popular. Some parking in a lot and street.

  • Pleasant and Picturesque walk from the Sunset Cliff trail point down to the beach. Get down the stairs to have a swim. Come back up, grab a beer and walk down to the Sunset park where you see people using ropes to get down which was quite fun. Lay down to watch the beautiful sunset. Had an amazing sunset time. Must visit if in SD!
  • Beautiful place to watch the sunset. Cliffs are unstable, so be careful walking around. There are a few benches around to sit and watch the sunset. Gets busy quickly so you may want to arrive about an hour before sunset. You will need to walk about a mile from where you park to see the best views.
  • The hike down from the university parking lot is not hard but a little confusing. Once you get to the cliffs, you are welcomed with great views of the ocean and a nice thin trail to walk along the cliffside. Some corners offer great views along the coastline and also (somewhat tricky) access to the beach. We saw a bunch of surfers trying to catch a wave around sunset and a few spouts out of water at a distance of what looked like a whale (a few other folks confirmed with their binoculars too). The sunset was of course gorgeous and temperature almost perfect for a late December day.
  • Stellar experience. Serene and picturesque. From the name it’s evident, that it’s famous for viewing the sunset. The cliffs and the long seashore, entire spot was crowded for the sunset. It was not the perfect day for it, because it was a bit cloudy. We could just see the sunset hue. The cliffs are good if you are a hiker, but there are many places where cliffs are unstable. So, it’s good not to go much outside of your own limit. The cliffs are actually pretty tall. We could see the seashore and the beach down below. The beach was almost empty except a few surfer. On the cliff during the sunset time, it gets cold and windy ( it was December end). Parking could be difficult as a lot of people gather.
  • Lots to say about this place. 1st off It's amazing. Explore the canyon, I think locals call wonderland, because of the psychedelic graffiti. Go down to the beach during low tide to see the tide pools. There's a cool little see cave that's reachable during low tide. It's a nice chill/ friendly vibe there
