Create an itinerary including Japanese Tea Garden
Originally constructed in 1894 for the World's Fair, Japanese Tea Garden represents the oldest garden of its kind in the country--a mainstay of San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Spread out over 2 hectares (5 acres), the garden features quaint bridges, traditional pagodas, stone pathways, koi ponds, and scores of plants and foliage native to Japan. You'll find that the garden lives up to its namesake as well: Stop for a cup of traditional Japanese brew at the on-site tea house. The gift shop offers different blends and tea sets, along with all of the accompanying ceramic wares. • A beautiful short walk to see the garden. Beautifully maintained. A tour was starting as I was leaving with lots of additional information. Great gift shop for quality gifts.

  • We didn’t realize there were 3 gardens to visit. We were specifically going for the tea house so stuck to that garden with our limited time today. It was small but beautiful. We were here a total of an hour. Everything at the tea house was delicious but quite pricey and small portions. Gorgeous place to spend the morning. Hoping to be able to check out the other 2 gardens as well.
  • Such a beautiful tranquil space. Great space to observe and meditate. Ticket amount was more than expected, but well worth it. Easy check-in. I thought the garden would be bigger, but the peace of the space over ruled all doubts. Unique greenery, and waterfalls. I can only imagine what the garden looks like when everything is in bloom. Loved that they had a eating space in the middle of the garden, serving tea, snacks, and other asian goodies. Highly recommended visit.
  • This place was absolutely beautiful. My bf and I stopped to have a cup of tea after spending 5 hrs in the academy of science. I didn't have the energy to walk around much, but the beauty of it was breathtaking. It wasn't expensive either. $13 for me, free for my guy cause he's a veteran. From the grooming of the landscape, to the bright beautiful colors, it was perfect. I can't wait to come back and actually explore!
  • This garden is absolutely gorgeous! We visited right when it opened and it was so quiet and relaxing that we didn't want to leave. The garden is so well maintained and easy to walk around. They also have a tea shop and a gift shop at the back right corner of the garden. One of the structures is under construction so it was covered, but even that didn't take away from the beauty of the place. We were glad we arrived when we did because a lot more people started showing up about an hour after opening and there were even a couple of field trip groups that arrived, so by the time we left it definitely was noisier and not as peaceful. I highly recommend visiting and if you can, go during a less busy time.
  • It was a peaceful cloudy day in San Francisco. The garden is poetic and Beautiful. I love Japanese art and culture. I loved all the details and references. It is a beautiful experience. It increases my desire to travel to this amazing country. The Japanese Tea Garden is ideal for couple outdoor activities and/or quality times with family.
