Recognized as a basilica by Pope Benedict XVI in 2005, The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi was founded as a parish the same year as the city was founded, in 1610. The current building featuring Romanesque revival architecture was dedicated in 1887. Note the round arches and Corinthian columns. The rose windows in the front of the church depict the twelve apostles. The best view of the windows is from the chapel where services take place. In the exterior porticos, several statues commemorate saints. The statue of Kateri Tekakwitha pays homage to the first Native American to be beatified. Notice the bronze doors leading back inside the church. The panels on the outside tell the story of the church in Santa Fe history. We loved this stunning and beautiful basilica and enjoyed its history and beautiful stained glass. The reliquary and Stations of the Cross prayer garden were absolutely inspiring! What a blessing!

Visited here while walking the historic district. Entrance is free, and there are many beautiful stained glass windows and other works of art to see. The baptismal pool is definitely worth seeing.

I'm not a religious person but I do appreciate beautiful architecture. This church was magnificent and had a very charming appeal. I enjoyed walking around and observing all the intricate details of the church as it is still a functioning church. It is very well maintained. Entrance was free and they had people there who talked about the history and could answer your questions if any.

St. Francis is a gorgeous Cathedral. For those visiting Santa Fe it is a must visit. The downside is it is bustling with tourists. Thankfully Missy don’t stay long, but the stream of people is continuous. The only semi-quiet place I could find, sit and pray, meditate was the chapel area to the right of the altar where the confessionals are. While there, I recommend walking there grounds, Prayer Garden, and the adjacent park.

The cathedral has magnificent stained glass windows. Plus a few paintings worth viewing. The docents are super helpful and you really have to take your time to enjoy the space. For me, the fountain was the unique centerpiece with the subtle running water. Definitely worth the time to visit and walk around.

What a beautiful cathedral! Everytime we go visit somewhere from out of town we always make sure to stop at their cathedrals. I'm so happy stopped at Brasilica! It's beautiful inside and out! Loved touring the inside and learning more about its history. There were candles to light and a gift shop in the front. (It was a little busier than I expected so I wasn't able to knell and pray in quiet but I still got to admire its beauty and pray in my head. The outside had some sculptures as well.

Exquisite! Perfectly lovely inside. Quiet, clean, and expertly cared for. Amazing and beautiful. Church is from 1715 but looks new. Free admission, donations can be made. Please look at all the nooks and crannies. The stain glass is fantastic. Look up to see the massive pipe organ.
