Marie Selby Botanical Gardens specialize in epiphytes, especially orchids and bromeliads, and boast one of the largest and most diverse collections in the world. (Epiphystes grow on other plants but are not parasitic; they derive moisture and nutrients from the air and rain.) The staff at this lush tropical oasis is devoted to growing, preserving, and studying these plants. Rest on a bench or have a snack at the cafe. Artists are encouraged to bring their sketchbooks. Consider bringing insect repellant. See Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and all Sarasota has to offer by arranging your trip with our Sarasota trip planner.

  • The gardens are fabulous. The Tiffany displays are amazing. However, the parking attendant and the Manage of Visitation (Ross Johnston) were rather rude. We were a bus load of seniors from Ft Myers...

  • disappointed - poor customer service. We have been to the selby dozens of times. Mostly because it's beautiful and I have a national AHS membership. This membership provides discounts to all places....  more

  • This botanic garden was by far the best part of my trip. The Tiffany Exhibit, with all the stained glass, was re-created throughout the gardens giving a one of a kind experience. A lightning storm...

  • Amazing collection of orchids, bromeliads, and more. Loved the vm a Asian gardens, bonsai, and bamboo. Overall better than most similar places.
  • Wow! This is an absolute must visit for anyone in the area who wants to see beautiful flowers, be in closer contact with nature in a scenic environment, or just have a great time outdoors. There is more to see than I ever thought; photos and its own fame don't do this place justice. You don't need to know anything about plants; the place is so pretty, anyone can enjoy it. That said, there is plenty of information (species' names, etc.) around the gardens to learn from. My wife and I spent 4 hours here on Memorial Day 2022 and we had such a fun stroll, discovering nature and taking tons of pictures along the way. Even though it was a hot day, you could feel the gulf breeze and there was enough shade covering multiple parts of the trails as well as plenty of benches and interesting little spots for a rest stop. It was a wonderful afternoon I will never forget.
  • Wonderful, lush garden that’s surrounded with exotic plants, the ocean, and kind people. The Shelby Gardens is a great place to visit if you’re from out of town, want to spend a day with the kids and family, or just enjoy plants itself. The facility is clean and well managed. When you come into the gardens, you’ll have your car valeted and returned at the end. We just happened to come the day after their newest exhibit opened which included these colorful Costa Rican masks. Plenty of areas to sit and enjoy the landscape. Definitely check it out!
  • Beautiful greenhouse and gardens. The photography show was also fabulous and the outdoors photos, along the walkways were wonderful - I loved the way they interact with the gardens. If you love plants and trees, you’ll love this place. The gift shop - had some interesting items as well, not all related to the gardens. Apparently you can also buy flowers and plants from the shop.
  • Very well maintained. Diverse grounds collections. Mangroves boardwalk offers bay view Conservatory is lovely Orchids, ferns and air plants are for sale in the gift shop. Holiday light shows end this week Jan 5, 2023. Turf heavily worn in many areas, especially the great lawn. Event venue looks over the bay. Parking garage under construction should be ready in late fall 2023. Meanwhile, free parking 2 blocks away or complimentary valet parking on-site.
