Home to General Sherman, the largest tree (and living thing) in the world, Giant Forest, contains 12 of the top 40 giant sequoias. You'll feel like an ant as you walk along the 3.2 km (2 mi) Congress Trail; the sheer enormity of the trees towering above gives this area its name. Other noteworthy trees found here include: General Grant, the second largest sequoia tree in the world (estimated to be over 3,000 years old), and the equally impressive President Tree. Watch for wildlife ranging from squirrels to deer to black bears. Make sure to visit the museum where you'll learn how tree bark up to 0.5 m (18 in) thick protects these colossal creatures from fire. PutGiant Forest into our Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park trip planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

Pull over at one of the pull offs instead and go see them up close. It truly is magical being next to these giant creatures.

The Giant Forest within the Sequoia National Park, has to be one of the most fascinating natural wonders that I have come across. The forest is aptly named. The Sequoias in the forest are not only some of the tallest but also some of the oldest living trees in this world. Walking among the trees and soaking in the aroma of the pine and the redwoods is almost thereaupatic. The trailhead is easy to reach - just follow directions to Giant Sherman trailhead. Then you can walk around the forest along both the Giant Sherman trail or the Congress trail. The walk is easy and can be easily done by children or elders. There’s typically a line to click pictures around the Giant Sherman but the line moves fast. Highly recommended and one of the must do things in Sequoia National Park.
