Create an itinerary including Moro Rock Trail
Rising high above the Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks, Moro Rock Trail offers some of the best views in the area. Almost all of the park areas can be seen from the top of this 2,050 m (6,725 ft) tall granite monolith. The rock's vertical sides are nesting grounds of peregrine falcons, as well as rock climbers' heaven. If scaling sheer cliffs isn't your favorite way of getting around, head for the 400 steps that lead to the summit. Even though you'll have railings and rest areas, the stairway is steep, and the hike up can be strenuous. The rest areas provide nice views for those who don't like the heights or who can't make it all the way to the summit. The steps might be inaccessible during bad weather. • Amazing views, truly breathtaking!! I highly recommend starting very early, we went up around 7am and passed a few people as we headed up. Once we made it to the top, we were the only ones up there for 30+ minutes, it was incredible. The stairs aren't that terrible, I have asthma and had a hurt leg while hiking up, just go slow and take your time, it is 1000% worth it!
  • Stunning views! The 360 view at the top is breathtaking, and access to it is very straightforward, so it should be on the bucket list of every nature lover and outdoor enthusiast. Just absolutely brilliant. My English isn't good enough to put into words what I felt there, but anyone visiting Sequoia national park MUST visit this.
  • Amazing place. Must visit on the trip to Sequoia National park. Plan to come after 2/3 pm so that you can enjoy the evening sunset timing by the time we reach the top. Almost 6 to 7 stories of stairs to reach to the top. Parking is limited hence visiting on weekdays will allow you to drive all the way to the base of the hike. Or else you need to park at different places and get on a free park shuttle too reach here. Weekends are crowded and long queues for the shuttle bus. Parking is quite an issue around different points in this NP. So make sure to avoid holidays and weekends off the goal is to enjoy the serene natural beauty.
  • Parking is limited at the bottom of the climb. Taking the park shuttle will save some headache in looking/waiting for a spot. From the base to the top, there are 350 steps and 6000+ feet elevation gain. It is a moderate hike because the path is well defined and has rails and barriers all the way. However, there is the 6000+ feet elevation gain that some people may not be comfortable with. It took us about an hour around trip. We stopped often on the way to look at the view and take pictures. We also stayed on the top around 20 minutes. Spectacular views! A must-do climb if you are visiting the Sequoia National Park!
  • I decided to drive further in and park at the Crescent Meadows parking area. That allowed me to extend the hike by navigating the High Sierra Trail to Bobcat Point for some beautiful expansive views. I then merged on to the sugar Pine trail to access the Moro Rock trail. There was some extensive fire damage, however the trail was cleared and well maintained. The final stretch to the top of Moro Rock was only a quarter mile. There were plenty of guard rails to protect you. The steps were amazing and the history of their implementation can be read at the beginning of the trail. I will admit there were stretches my fear of heights was tested. I kept pushing on and was rewarded with the epic views at the top. The top was surrounded by a secure guard rail around the entire top with a nice bench for taking a seat.
