The Dumont Museum was on our list of things to see in Iowa and it was right up the road from our overnight stay at the Belva Deer Inn on Hwy 92. I would review that property but I can not find it...

I had a great time and the people running the place were very friendly for me. The museum has a little bit of everything for about anyone and I didn't think the $8 was too bad to pay to see everything, there are several very rare tractors in there that have been so well restored they've been featured in magazines.

This review is not a commentary on the museum itself. There are so many cool things for kids and adults to see and experience. The collection in this place is really very fun. The great disappointment for our family, and the reason for this review, comes from the owners customer service. We all have bad days and busy lives - I so understand. But several branches of our family have gone here at different times of day and different seasons of the year. The owner is grumpy and rude; he posts hours of operation and then turns the trains off hustling people out well before close. (Today we were asked to leave at 3 despite the fact that hours were posted until 4. This happened to other members of our family as well). His wife is very sweet, but his customer service skills need some help. Just be aware of all of this when you pay the ticket prices ($8/adult, $5/older kids, $3/younger kids).

This is a great museum! Kids can go nuts watching all the standard gauge Lionel trains. There are tons of them. An impressive display of trains. But then there's more. Roy Rogers stuff, different toy collections, stage coaches, another building for tractors and pedal tractors, it's ready to get lost for a few hours here. The owners live next door and appointments through the week are no issue. They have a lot of fun showing off all the different collections.

We enjoyed all of the old farm equipment and old engines and all of the small trains and accessories. Not sure it is still in operation as they were going to have an auction. Before going call and see if they are still open. If they it is well worth going to if you like old equipment.

There are numerous display cases with so many unique items. The Oliver tractor collection is simply amazing. This is truly a must see museum if you are in the area. I must have spent two hours walking through the different buildings.
