Stratford Hall is a historic house museum near Lerty in Westmoreland County, Virginia. It was the plantation house of four generations of the Lee family of Virginia (with descendants later to expand to Maryland and other states). Stratford Hall is the boyhood home of two Founding Fathers of the United States and signers of the Declaration of Independence, Richard Henry Lee (1732–1794), and Francis Lightfoot Lee (1734–1797). Stratford Hall is also the birthplace of Robert E. Lee (1807–1870), who served as General-in-Chief of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War (1861–1865). The Stratford Hall estate was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960, under the care of the National Park Service in the U.S. Department of the Interior.

My wife and I stayed the night at the Astor house and had the Valentine's dinner here. We explored the grounds around the main house and they were beautiful. I put off exploring because when I usually come here I come for the beach and fossils but I finally got around to exploring the well maintained lands of this historic site. I would highly recommend a visit as the staff were super attentive and everything about our stay was perfect. Super clean rooms and amenities and the food provided by Densons Farm to Table was to die for. Again highly recommend a stay and/visit.

The cabins are cozy, with full amenities and kitchenette. lots of history it is a wonderful place to stay. Tours and a beach we had a great time. The wife loved it.

Very interesting window into life in colonial Virginia across several generations of the gentry while also providing insights into the plight of the slaves and indentured servants on the plantations of the time. Excellent audio tour, nice grounds to explore and a decent beach area where you can also find fossils and shark teeth.

Since we came there for a wine festival we will definitely return to spend more time at this terrific, well-preserved and historic estate. Tours of the great house were open and the docents/guides were remarkably well-informed, cheerful on a hugely busy day, and plentiful as there was at least one in each room to help with all manner of questions. The mid-September wine festival will go on our calendar too as it was laid out nicely with plenty of live entertainment and good food and drink. Samples of a wide variety of Virginia wines were readily available with little to no waiting and included in the festival admission. But we'll return soon to learn more about the house and its famous occupants. The grounds are magnificent!

The home is beautiful and inspiring. The history that is stored in each room is beyond description. We were there on a beautiful day and stayed overnight in one of the available cabins. I cannot describe the beauty and charm of the cabin ... a must if you come to visit Stratford Hall. What a monument to be preserved and enjoyed by those who respect our history.
