Thousands of acres of pristine prairie with a bison herd roaming at will on the grounds of a well preserved 19th Century cattle ranch. Hiking trails only - no vehicles allowed. Enter the bison area...

This is a very nice National Preserve. There are many, many miles of trails here to hike. Also part of the preserve is an impressive 1880's house and limestone barn so a little ranch history as well. Definitely worth a stop.

An absolute beauty of a place. You can spend hours hiking here, and taking in the scenery. You get to see heard of Bisons. The rangers at the visitor center, who were friendly, can guide you on where to find them. Remember to carry water and some snacks with you. Also get your sunscreen, and bug spray. There's absolutely no shade, so be prepared. The nature trails are on gravel, hence, not stroller and wheelchair friendly. They have a Bottomland trail which is apparently wheelchair friendly.

This was our first visit to this wonderful site. The extant buildings are well preserved and very interesting. We really got a sense of why people were attracted to Kansas. There is a sense too of warmth and well-being that is still present. The pictures are from two locations: the National Park Service site for the TGNP and the Schrumpf View Point south of the preserved area. Both are interesting and worth your time. A second or third visit is needed to hike the trails that begin at the preserved farm site. It was 100F the day we visited so plan accordingly. Approximately 12 miles north in Council Grove there is a brewery, River Bank Brewing. After a long, dusty time on the road it's just the thing.

Exhilarating at the top of the trail. To think how many people traveled there in wagons, and Indians .Saw a few bison in the distance. Used the phone number to hear narration. A beautiful place If there was a bench up top I would have stayed longer taking it all in.

Lovely and peaceful place. This is a different type of beauty here in Kansas. The plane stretch as far as the eye can see. There are also Buffalo in the area as well. Depending on the time of day and season is very tranquil to walk on the path and the trails at the park has so meticulously maintained. Definitely worth several trips up here if you live in the area.
