  • Decent hiking trails. Stayed in a newly renovated 2 BR log cabin. We always enjoy the stay park cabins. Missed having a fire ring to enjoy a camp fire. Loved the lake, caught a decent large mouth.

  • We were camping with our adult children and friends and a park ranger came to our site and said it's an hour past quiet time so you can't have your music on cause someone complained that it's too...

  • This beautiful park is known for the fairy stones, aka staurolite. In addition, this place has tons of trails and beautiful vistas awaiting the visitor. Check the webpage before showing up as there....  more

  • First time checking out this park. We went early in the morning and had the lakeside trail completely to ourselves. Beautiful fall hike. Wide trail for dogs. Cost $7 to park and enter the park which I wish I had known ahead of time. Definitely worth it and we will be back again.
  • The location is lovely and very quiet. Sky is very dark at night allowing good star gazing. Great trails and hunting for fairy stones is fun. Stop by the office to see what they look like before you start hunting. Buy your wood at the office while you are there because you can't buy it at the campground. Campground bath house is kept very clean. Some campsite RV pads are deteriorating and difficult to find positioning that allows levelling the RV. This is why the 3 star "room" review. Didn't have time to try the lake. Didn't see anything that made me want to take pictures.
  • On the oldest Virginia state parks. Beautiful lake fishing or swimming. They have a sand beach or swimming we were there early in the season so there were no lifeguards and really very few rangers or people there. If you forget something it is at least 15 miles to the nearest store. The ranger talks we attended were very well given. Check in time is it 4:00 p.m. firm.
  • Great location for shoulder season camping. The cabins are newly renovated and the location feels remote even though it's close to major population centers. The yurts were a bit dated but still fun. Book early.
  • This was a fun date for me and my girlfriend. The fairy rocks were smaller than you would expect. Also, the area to "hunt" for the fairy rocks isn't in the park. The hunting grounds are a 5-10 min drive away from the park entrance and off to the left of a gas station.
