Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center, Key Largo

If you are ever in the Florida Keys, Tavernier to be exact, be sure to drop by the Laura Quinn Wild Bird Sanctuary. There is no admission fee, but there is a donation box. I always drop a nice donation because I've heard great stories about the Sanctuary helping a range of animals and not just birds. Couldn't get great pics of the birds because, of course they have to be in cages, but I got some photos of one of my favorite areas of the Sanctuary and that is at the very back where you leave the walkway and can see one of the most beautiful and peaceful scenes you will ever see. The Sanctuary is located on the Florida Bay and the beauty is something to behold. So, if you go, do go all the way back and you'll be in for a treat.

Small bird sanctuary. Very good information about their resident birds! It was neat to be able to get so close to some of them. It seemed like seem birds were very used to people and were even showing off a little bit. You cannot see the pelicans at the moment-their enclosure is being remodeled.

Definitely worth the stop! Short little path along a boardwalk which ends with a nice view of the ocean. Loved how they had signs on each enclosure not only telling about the birds, but even how you can help. No cost to enter..so be sure to leave a donation!

The Wild Bird Sanctuary is a great place to spend time as a family, with a friend or on your own. If you like to spend any time in nature this is the place to go. It was educational, fun, and inexpensive #Free. Although free, if you’re able donations keep everything running and help in rescue and conservation efforts so give what you can. Our family had a great time. Our 16 yr old loved the birds, especially the predatory ones during feeding time. Although the sanctuary looks deceptively small from the outset, keep following the boardwalk back away from the parking area for beautiful views of the Florida mangroves and wildlife. Just follow directions, especially the ones on signs, don’t feed the animals, and be on the lookout for alligators to be safe. You can spend anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours here. Have fun!

Admission to this bird sanctuary is free but we donated for good cause. They house wild birds that were badly hurt and unable to be released back to nature. It’s a small place but you can definitely appreciate the place if you love wild animals. Some birds are very curious to new visitors and will interact.
