Little Wild Horse Canyon, Hanksville

This wonderful hidden gem is truly hidden. Location is right before you reach Goblin Valley State Park (NOT the gravel road that Google Maps will take you- unless you have a VERY robust vehicle), you will see a sign that says “Little Wild Horse Canyon” that will lead you to the trailhead. It’s about 0.5 or 0.75 miles until you reach the first bit of narrow canyon. We only hiked the first section as the rest were flooded from previous rainfall, so about 2 miles round trip, and it was totally worth it! I still felt like we got the whole slot canyon experience. It was beautiful. We went on a Sunday afternoon around 4pm in July and we were (surprisingly!) the only ones there. One of my favorite Utah hikes (including the Zion ones!). Highly worth a stop if you’re coming from Zion, Bryce Canyon, or Capitol Reef on your way to Moab. Probably only about an hour or half an hour out of your way.

Oh my gosh! I had no idea what I was in for until we got there. We had heard it was a wonderful hike, and a great canyon, but to find the slot canyon there, as breathtaking as it was, was a total surprise. Perfect hike. Not too long, not too hard, but filled with one of a kind experiences and views.

Beautiful. We did the full hike out through Bell canyon. They said it was 8 miles total on the map, but it was actually 11.8 miles. It took us forever and all the kids were exhausted. The canyon was gorgeous though

This was a highlight of our trip...stopped here on our way to Moab and completely blown away by this trail. Highly recommend! Very accessible trailhead (paved roads all the way), parking for about 12-16 cars at trailhead, privy, and nice trails. We went at 5pm and it was not crowded but imagine the hike might take longer with more people on trail because you to have to pass through the canyons one at a time. We turned around after 3.5 miles because we did not want to be caught in cold/dark conditions but we felt like we saw the majority of the canyons.

Wow! Just Wow! First time for hiking a slot canyon for me. This was just as exciting as hiking up to Delicate Arch in Arches National Park in Moab... with way less people. Recommend you go in 2 miles from trailhead then turn back. There is an 8 mile loop, but the first 2 miles with the tight slot canyon is the best. Plus it’s neat seeing it on the way back with a different perspective. The slot canyon is tight and has obstacles you have to climb up and over in places. So recommend you’re somewhat fit and a strong hiker for this trek. We came across some blood stained rocks where someone obviously had trouble with a section. I hiked it late September and there had been no rain in weeks. The trail was 100% dry. But recent rain will add water obstacles as well. Part of me wished I had to deal wading through water when I went to add a bit of adventure of what’s waiting for me around the corner. Well worth the trip! Hidden gem of Utah magical landscapes.
